The 12 month period has always been there which I gather is for those who have seasonal fluctations. Otherwise on an 8 week only cycle you would be going up and down unless you keep a constant number of parcels sent each week.

If you grab a copy of the Free "Post Charges" booklet from the PO next time, everything is in there. Latest is dated 1/10/2018.

They produce a new one twice a year in line with their increases.

Once you get used to working with it, it is very helpful and on hand, I keep mine next to the screen so easy to grab.

Any special info I just highlight or write in and carry over from booklet to booklet.

I've been using the plain white satchels that my PO supplies - they come in a bulk pack of 100 and cost me around $40 for the pack. I pay $8.30 for actual postage (with current increase), so the price works out around the same HOWEVER, the main difference is the size of the white satchel as it's somewhat bigger than the regular 500g red satchel so I can fit more multiple purchases into it, rather than having to upsize to the 3kg red satchel.

Aust Post 500gram satchels that you pay postage separately are only $15 per 100. You are much better off using the ebay postage service as they only charge $7.55 with tracking and delivery automatically applied to the sale so saves time.

I read it that Jelly was happier using the plain white satchels as they were bigger than the regular 500g satchels. The eBay ones are quite small and I've had trouble a few times fitting things in.

I have used both for either ebay or Mypost. Not sure if it is 100% allowed but having seen large sellers use this and many other methods to save on costs I have not had any problems having sent 100's this way.

If you send more than 5 parcels per week Mypost will get you 10% off postage costs and is still integrated with ebay although not as well with information of size and weight having to be added.

I often turn 3kg satchels inside out and use those for under 500g packages and never had a problem and only get charged $7.95. I dont think it matters how big the package is as long as its under 500g.

It gets trickier when you are over 500g

Should also mention that I lodge and pay for these bigger packs at the PO and do not use ebays labels. I use ebay labels on the proper 500g satchel size.

I was actually going to ask if I could turn a 3kg satchel inside out and use it as a 500g with an eBay label. My items go in a small box inside the satchel and sometimes it misses by only a few mm. I then have to butcher the box to make it fit. It would be so much easier to be able to use a bigger bag!

I also wanted to clarify what is meant by "white satchels" that Jelly is using. I did a search and I found the eBay satchels, plus the prepaid red and white satchels, and there were others that were red and white but not prepaid (the writing was in red). They were the same size as the eBay satchels. They were all from the Aust Post shop.

Then I found some satchels that had no printing at all, just plain white. They were not from the AP shop. They were different sizes and would suit my needs better. Can I use them with eBay labels for a 500g satchel? Or would they have to be sent as a standard parcel cost?

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Poly-Mailer-Plastic-Satchel-Courier-Self-Sealing-Shipping-Bag-Satchet-Recycable/253424431274?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52946%26meid%3D70d1da7057e24699b1b74981017aba36%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D162110299276%26itm%3D253424431274&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

You can actually just select "own packaging" via eBay, rather than the 500g satchel option, then just type in the package dimensions and weight.

I use a plain white satchel for 500g parcels, and have a few different sizes depending on the order, then use a document envelope to attach the label and keep it safe from damage. I buy both in packs of 500-1000, which makes the combo (satchel and document envelope) a bit cheaper than Aus Post's branded ones - it'd be even cheaper if you don't need the pouch for the label.

Hi Digi, (and anyone who pays for invoice envelopes) are you aware that you can get packs of Stick-on see-through invoice envelopes from the PO for FREE?

They were originally brought out I think to supply to the peope using the old Click and Send function, so were available free.

AP don't advertise them, and I used to have the code for them but can't find atm.

Just ask at the counter, and if they don't have them they will get them in for you.

They are quite large as originally designed for the international labels which are half size A4, so you have to get used to that quirk.

I currently print out my own labels, 4 to a page and they look a bit lost in the envelope but hey! who cares.

You can get them in a pack of either 50 or 100 and sometimes have been given a box.

They have the same function as the small size invoice envelopes, have "Australia Post" printed on the front to one side and a sticky peel off.

So that could bring your costs down even more.

I've heard about the ones from Aus Post but the staff at my PO don't seem to have them or know that they're available (they actually asked me where I get mine from, lol).

The 500g eBay satchel option is now about 80c less than own packaging since the price rise, so I'd be surprised if they allowed a label that says satchel onto a box! I know there is no price mentioned on the label, but it clearly says 500g satchel. Maybe I could get away with it if I was dropping straight into the box, but I always get a lodgement scan.
