Not allowed to leave HONEST feedback for buyers who default - WHY??

I've had more than 2,550 sales and lately I've had a spate of buyers who make no contact after the sale - no payment.

I receive a FVF fee refund but this is not enough - I want justice!!

I see these buyers going on with their 100% rating and their behaviour should at least be visible to sellers.

Why keep them at 100% poistive when they have defaulted????????????

It's just NOT FAIR!!!!

I hope you realise that by leaving positive with negative comment is not only a breach of Ebay policy but also adds to the buyers feedback score.

If the buyers that you've left those comments for report you,you'll receive policy violations-too many of those & you'll be either restricted in your listings,suspended from listing or deregistered.

Do you have buyer blocks in place to stop those with 1 or more non payer strikes from bidding on your items?

If you don't,you really should do that now-thats how you stop the tyre kickers,by doing the RIGHT thing.

I think a part of the problem is that sellers don't know that by leaving a feedback for a buyer after opening an item not paid for dispute, the positive feedback overrides any strikes that should have been given to the buyer....which means buyer gets yet another "positive" feedback added and keeps bidding without paying for it as no strike is given.

So, please for the sake of all other sellers DO NOT give non-paying bidders/buyers any feedback. Open a dispute, get your FVF back, this means that other sellers with their byer's blocks in place will at least be protected and if the buyer gets 3 strikes their account gets blocked.

YES - I only ever list items that I can be 100% sure of supplying and I've NEVER defaulted on supply. But what's that got to do with my complaint - that the seller cannot leave anything but POSITIVE feeback - there's no alternative which means all eBayers who' buy only' will always have a 100% rating which makes the whole feedback system pointless and one-sided and does nothing to inform sellers of a buyer's credibility.

Ebay took away the seller's ability to leave negative feedback ages ago, supposedly to stop retaliatory negatives.

Nothing you can do about it, just make sure you go through with the UPI process so they get the strikes they deserve - this will stop them from doing it to other sellers who have their blocks in place.

There seems to have been a big increase in non- payers just recently, too 😞

I consider feedback count and comments for eBay 'buyers only' useless when conducting my selling activites. Even though I do not sell much I don't have the time to be checking buyer's feedback. I also don't want to pre-judge my buyers and start the whole transaction process off on the wrong foot because of something/feedback that had nothing to do with me.

So long as they pay within acceptable timeframe I am happy. If they don't pay, I don't add to their collection of green dots and I do the UPI thing to help protect ALL sellers from them.

I am sorry, but this is simply not true. Leaving any sort of feedback - positive or false positive for a buyer DOES NOT negate a strike. I have confirmed this with ebay representatives on three separate occassions and all written policies on site map also confirrm this.

The two systems are not connected AND there are no ebay policies or practices in place regarding this action.

The linking of buyer feedback to strikes is a discussion board furphy.

I can only thank the sellers who have left feedback for non payers - it has frequently alerted me to the fact that I need to watch them more carefully and follow up quickly re payment rather than drag my feet.

AND my goodness there are 100's of sellers who have added to their BBL very quickly due to reports of particular non payers on this board that have only been picked up DUE to such sellers.

OP why do the tyre kickers matter so much to you. As you stated in your opening comment they are few and far between. Issue your strikes and set your limits if you want justice. I recieve at least 1 plea a month from some numpty who thinks that because they have recieved 2 unpaid item strikes in the last 6 months they will be allowed to bid on my auctions. To the most part the answer to them is NO.

Hi, I'd just like to know what an un paid item strike looks like? Forgive the ignorance but is it a the same as me giving a negative (not that I can give them to purchasers). Just asking because I have a buyer who's not paid for two items yet has been active on ebay buying other stuff?

Hi Nikki, we can't see the strikes and neither can anyone else- the buyer is the only who knows its on their account. If your buyer hasn't paid within four days, use the 'more actions' drop down box on the item line/s, follow the prompts and initiate unpaid item dispute/s. You can close the dispute/s 4 days later. To stop buyers with strikes on their account bidding with you, go to your account tab > site preferences > buyer requirements, and block buyers with 2 or more strikes.

I should add, the best way to have a buyer pay is simply to message them to ask if they'd still like the item. If no response within a day or two, then open the disputes.

Unfortunately eBay has lost sight of it founding father's original intention as written on their own site as to the purpose of the feedback forum and what it was supposed to do. In simple terms he realised that to operate any business environment in a which buyer and seller can not get to know one another face to face there must be a way to establish trust and to quickly find and push away those that were dishonest, discourteous and those that hurt the market community he was trying to build. He was able to set up eBay successfully ... "By creating an open market that encourages honest dealings."

Can we claim that to be true of eBay today? Honesty?

We have on eBay :-

1. Knockoffs and refurbished items sold as new/legit,

2. Direct imports from China and other countries selling items well below quality standards normally allowed sellers here, who come and go under various ids until they are closed down leaving no recourse for duped buyers.

3. FEES both hidden and unfair e.g. you can not pass on PayPal and GST costs to end buyer like you can in the normal bricks and mortar world and eBay can take a percentage of the GST included end price of your item but you can not claim GST on their fees not add GST or other value based fees to the final value of an auction (like you can to a property or car auction for example). Worst of all you can not tell customers about these fees and what eBay and Paypal are doing or steer them away from their golden goose - PayPal. They also recently forced me to move to a higher store as they are 'getting rid' of the cheaper option, then hike up the cost of that higher store type on me... I now pay twice as much for the privilege of multi-variation selling which is the only thing I need a store for!

4. eBay owned PayPal takes a %age of postage and handling but we can not charge that back to the buyer... PayPal is forced upon us 'for our own good' and we are told it is safer that a Bank (but I have never lost money using my bank and I have lost $3000 USD using Paypal with a supposedly verified user address website and feedback scores...)

5. I have also been asked to break the law by Paypal when I explained that sending back a known counterfeit USB key to get back my money from the Chinese seller was breaking Federal Law of sending counterfeit goods in the mail and subject to a $2000 fine or even jail time. I was told regardless of this I would not get my funds back unless I could prove I had sent it back.

Is this honest dealings? Are sellers getting an honest feedback system when they can only leave positive feedback or none at all? Why is there no warning when a person with negs puts a bid on your item instead - so you can see if you even want their business for example? Why only UPIs as the only (extreme) reason for refusing to let then bid on your items?

If other businesses have right of refusal of service to known trouble makers - why not us?

This is why I stopped being a Powerseller on eBay and went back to just using it for getting rid of a few items. It was no longer the market it could have become and it was no longer honest. I helped make eBay what it was then. I fought to keep eBay unrestricted/unshackled by well meaning politicians in Canberra along with other eBay sellers (at eBay's invitation) back in 2005 (or so) and I a full time business employing people and had over 35000 positive feedbacks and 99.7% rating with only retaliatory ratings making up that small percentage of negs. Those few negs did not matter to me because it was honest and if someone negged me for a good reason I would wear it, and if not I could tell the world why, and that they were crooked (mostly deadbeat UPIs). I let the feedback system work it out and it did the job perfectly e.g. Often the ones I negged were negged by several other sellers (repeat UPI offenders or just plain nasty to deal with) and booted off thus removing them from the community and forcing those with nasty tendencies to pull their heads in and consider the feeling of others. It was much more pleasant to deal on eBay then and that was only 8 years ago! eBay has forgotten that is is not just the money and payment or non-payment that we judge each other on, it is the whole experience.

And why when you ask eBay about some new change being unfair do they just tell you "you are free to leave"?

Finally, feedback is more than just - did they pay or did we cheat them (as sellers) - it is about how we felt we were treated and would we want to transact with them again if given the chance? It is about building a community we can be happy trading in and enjoy working and shopping in every day in preference to all the other website and physical stores we have on offer to us daily, and about making eBay a place people can be committed and passionate about - like I/they used to be.:-D

Sorry, only found this thread today. There were no more recent threads on this issue and I did not think anyone one would appreciate me restarting a new thread on an old theme.

Normally not interested in Feedback but got a Neutral last few days with no comms from the customer and no reason just "thankyou". Only realised we no longer have the right to real feedback when I checked what feedback I had/could leave her and realised I could only leave a POS! What a joke.

I thought you could only leave non-Pos if you contacted the seller first to try and resolve any issues (I always have out of common decency)?
