PayPal and eBay Order Status Issue

I know there have been instances in the past where no emails were sent notifying of a payment via PayPal, and occasionally also payments have taken a while to be processed and appear, but I've never had this one before so thought I'd check here and see if anyone else is experiencing something similar.

An item sold this morning, the buyer is a regular customer and has always made payment immediately. This morning however, there is no PayPal notification, but when I check sold items there's an alert on the transaction - the one that appears when buyers leave a note to seller via checkout (checkout is currently showing as not complete, though ?:| ).

Anyway, when I click the link to view the tranaction details and message, it shows that the buyer selected PayPal via the checkout. So I logged into PayPal to check the balance, but there is no record of any payment there.

I've sent a message asking them to confirm payment details, if any, but in the mean time I thought I'd see if anyone knows if this usually means payment has actually been made, but there's just a delay in processing? (in both eBay and PayPal >_>).

The point about the note to seller - when I try to view it, there actually isn't one.

Is it possible the buyer clicked make payment and then an interuption in the internet line meant it only half completed ?

Or I have had a situation of make payment being clicked, then cancelled a second or two later because the payer realised it's the wrong account. ?:|

I don't like it when things go 'wrong' LOL. I can get panicky. :8}

That may be a possibility, though - especially if they're also with Optus, I couldn't connect until nearly 10am today (purchase was made at 8am). :_|

Guess I'll have to wait for their response - I mostly didn't want to delay posting the item, as they're one of my best customers.

DG-Nova has had HEAPS of similar issues in the past so I hope she comes along to this thread.

Oh & I'd be going with the technical glitch-wait a few hours & see what happens.JMO

I hope it's a glitch, especially as I don't think I can expect a reply from the buyer until after normal work hours.

Never had any issues (that I've been aware of) before, but getting a whole bunch lateley with the message system and so forth.

Yes I had it happen once and didn't realise the buyer had paid (or thought he'd paid) until a week later when he asked where his item was.

After I told the buyer what I knew, he checked his credit card to find the payment hadn't been debited and so he contacted ebay.

In the end, ebay advised the buyer to ask me to raise another invoice which I did, buyer paid and that was that.

However, I don't think the buyer was very impressed and I got the impression he thought I should have chased him up for payment so the whole thing could have been sorted out sooner.

The buyer never left feedback for which at the time I think I was grateful!

Only just turned my computer on.

yes, I had whole spate of similat incidents happening last year. Basically, the buyer paid with PP immediately, but there was no sign of the payment in My eBay or PP, no email. When the payment finally appeared, day, 2 or 5 later, it had the date of the auction. The lady whose payment took 5 days to show up was communicating with me before the sale, and told me she will pay immediately with PP. When I did not have payment, I contacted her and she said it shows in her PP account as paid; we both called PP. They confirmed the buyer paid and I do not have, but could not explain where is it, and then it just appeared with date 5 days earlier ?:| That was some $600!!!! i was lucky it was a very nice and understanding buyer .

Since then I keep checking the dates very carefully; end of last year it often took 24 - 36 hours, but lately my payments seem to be coming through fine. Then again, for some reason most people pay by DD in this moment.

Frustrating, as I don't want it to inconvenience the buyer but I also at least want to wait for a reply and confirmation from before I think about sending the item - particuarly if there was some kind of request in this "mystery message".

Sounds to me like they went through checkout, chose Paypal, maybe even entered their Paypal Password... but didn't do that final step of clicking "confirm payment"

Maybe, though I've done that myself a few times (on purpose) and can't see how that would then show what it's showing on my side of things as when I haven't confirmed payment then go back later to pay again, I can still choose between the various payment methods offered (unlike if you confirm bank deposit, which then shows as the method selected to the seller on transaction details). Plus I wouldn't think any messages entered and saved would show up as a note unless it was actually submitted.

But who knows, it seems this has happened to other sellers and from the buyer's side everything looks like the transaction went through without a hitch.

No reply yet, so will probably have to contact them directly if I haven't heard anything or nothing changes tomorrow.

As it turns out, I think you were right.

That's so bizarre (not that you were right, lol, that's not a surprise :^O), but that eBay recorded the message to seller on my side, yet couldn't actually display it until payment was properly completed. A good thing, though - the buyer said they thought they had paid, but actually hadn't, if their message hadn't been noted I wouldn't have picked up on it at all and just thought it was waiting payment, while they thought they had paid.

I have a lot of distraction here in the early evenings, and it's very common for me to do that exact same thing... get 3/4 way through paying and then forget to click "confirm".
