click and send question

I've only just started selling again and registered with click and send go to post an item today in a 500g sachel the item fitted in the sachel without a problem but when I went to put it in the red post box it would not fit probably about a 1cm too big.... so I take it into the post office where I was told they can only be placed in the red box, when I said that it won't fit in the red box I was told that maybe I should take that into consideration next time I think about posting a parcel.

we use to have a great post office friendly and helpful when it was private owned but it went down hill fast once Aus post took over.

I've searched these boards and read that people are taking their click and send sachels into the post office and having them scanned and getting a receipt so guessing that means their post office is taking them over the counter.

Is there a size limit on these sachels and do they need to be placed in the red boxes.

Also anyone know the size of the opening on the red post boxes by any chance save me going up and measuring it 🙂

If your item is less than 500g and fits in the satchel you can use it. Take it into the Post Office and ask them to scan it as lodged. You could give C&S a call before you go and tell them what has happened. They will probably ring your PO and advise them how to process the satchel.

I am not sure of the actual measurements but I've never had a problem with placing 3kg satchels in the street posting box. I have also been told that Australia Post staff are not required to take the satchels. Give Click and Send a call, I have always found them to be helpful.

Thank you for your reply, I will contact click and send, hope my post office doesn't start loosing my parcels once they get a phone call from click and send......

The idea of click and send satchels is to give you seller protection against item not received cases.

You must take the package into the PO and they must scan it on lodgement and give you a receipt as that is you proof of postage.

If the PO staff tell you any different tell them they are obliged to accept and lodge the package over the counter.

Tell them (while you are there) to call the number on the satchel to verify they MUST accept and scan on lodgement as that is what the C&S postage was created for.

Ok I thought the idea was to do it all online, drop it in the post box so I could avoid the post office.

but guess all that is done online just shows I paid for postage doesn't show proof that I actually posted something.

Well, that's exactly right. I have sent 100's of C&S satchels using the extra cover with signature option. Have always placed them in the street box. Australia Post will accept that as proof of shipment in case of a claim, I have been advised.

You can drop them in a red box however the only thing that will show on the tracking page is that you've paid for the package and when it is delivered.

I always lodge mine over the counter and obtain a receipt; that way the proof that you have posted it is available online to the buyer and will be accepted by PayPal as proof of posting.

I've heard some real horror stories about Post Offices, but never have any trouble with mine. Each time new owners take over I train them;\

Look next to the bar code it plainly states

For Australia Post Use

Scan barcode on lodgement and delivery

No Payment Required

so they must scan when lodged over the counter

Australia Post will accept that as proof of shipment in case of a claim, I have been advised.

It's not a question if Aus Post accept it, PayPal are the ones who decide whether it qualifies for seller protection

ok so if Aus post accept the online payment as proof would they accept that if the parcel was lost and could I then make a claim through Aus post for items up to $50, or is there no such thing as claiming through the post office.

my items so far have not been worth a great deal most less than $10, just wondering if I could pop those in the red box so I can avoid the post office and just face the post office staff when I really need too, like when the parcel is too big or worth more than $50

I use C&S for convenience. I post my items the same day (provided the transaction is complete before 5pm) I can do that because I do not have to travel to the PO.

I had a buyer claiming non-delivery but I was able to prove it was delivered and signed for (who signed it and what time) Turned out it was a relative who forgot to inform the buyer. In case of the parcel actually going missing, I would have refunded the buyer and chased it up with Australia Post.

If for some reason a parcel goes missing and no tracking can be found and Australia Post refuses to compensate, then I will stop using C&S. It would defeat the purpose what I use it for.

I post a lot of satchels in the red box. Same goes for envelopes sent at the large letter rate. But, I only do it for items that can be easily replaced if lost and are of low value. Everything else goes to the PO for scanning.

Pay the extra $1 for signature. They consider that as equiv to registered mail.

I had an issue with the Aus Post staff at my local post office not scanning the satchels and I sent an email to Aus Post support, they scanned them from that time on.

Haven't spoken to click and send just yet, have a toddler so easier to wait until nap time.

Will be sure to talk to them so they can get onto the staff at my post office and educate them on click and send.

Officially, there is no compensation for lost C&S parcels unless the extra $1 for signature on delivery has been paid. The AP rep that posts here (Alice), has stated that if, upon investigation, the loss is found to be due to AP's negligence, then compensation would be paid, but if all you have is proof of online payment and no tracking events, it would probably be difficult to determine where/how the loss occurred and I doubt Australia Post would take responsibility.

With signature on delivery, compensation up to $100 may be paid.

Paying for the postage on line with C&S only proves that you have paid for the postage, not that you have actually sent anything.

99.99% of the time if you post an ebay branded satchel straight into the red box it will appear in tracking eventually but it may not be until the item is actually delivered, in the odd case where it is not delivered you probably wouldn't get any compensation as you would have no proof of doing anything other than paying for the postage.

The other drawback of placing in the box is that the tracking will show in the buyer's ebay bit it will only show as having been prepared for posting, it will not show as actually having been processed by AP. Buyers who do not know how things work may be overly concerned that their parcel has not been posted and will prematurely open disputes.
