Have I missed something ??

I've just noticed eBay have auto relisted my items and charged $1.65 each and nowhere that I remember did I say ok.

Especially as I could have relisted yesterday with the 40 free listings ...

You said okay when you agreed to list BIN items using GTC (the only option). When they rollover they either use free allocations, of which you should have had 40 starting today, or incur a fee.

Most people also got unlimited free listings from 28-30 June.

GTC has been in effect since February, so it's not really new anymore.

With eBay's change to listing durations, in that all fixed-price listings are now Good 'Til Cancelled, the way in which those listings automatically renew (and the fees involved) has also changed.

In order NOT to be charged listing fees for a fixed-price listing that relists, you must

not have an eBay store, and
use the quick listing tool when you list the item.

- Free listings

❝Automatically relisted or renewed items may be counted towards your monthly free listings; it depends on the listing format, which listing format you used and whether you're selling on eBay as a business.❞

- Selling fees without an eBay store

❝Auction-style listings may be automatically relisted up to eight times if they don't sell. Insertion and feature fees are only charged for the original listing for non-business sellers. Automatic relisting is available in most categories, but there are some exclusions – see our category pricing list (PDF) for full details.

Fixed price listings are "Good 'Til Cancelled" – they renew automatically every month unless all of the items sell, you end the listing, or the listing violates an eBay policy.

How to remove automatic relisting from auction-style listings

Quick listing tool

If you used the quick listing tool to list your item, you'll need to end your listing if you don't want to relist it.

If you want to control whether your item will be relisted automatically or not, use the advanced listing form when creating new listings.

Advanced listing form

Find your item in Active listings.
Select the drop-down arrow beside your item and then Revise.
Clear the box beside Automatically relist this item up to 8 times if it doesn't sell.
Save your changes.

Seller Hub

Find the Active listing.
Tick the box beside the listing.
From Actions, select Remove Automation rules
Select No rule.❞

countessalmirena - thanks for your explanation, but when I clicked on the link for the quick listing tool it appears the same as the advanced listing tool. I then went in to help to search for it on it's own and got the same page format. I would love to be able to have GTC using quick listing without incurring monthly fees, but can't see any difference between the two tools. (using firefox - does that make any difference?)

Could someone just clarify this for me: it may be a stupid question, but I'm confused.

This excerpt states that using the quick listing tool 'listing and feature fees are only charged once'. However if I create a listing using the quick listing tool, the form states Each time a listing renews and whenever an item sells, you'll be charged applicable fees. Does 'listing and feature fees' mean something other than insertion fees?

Hmm...

When you click onto https://bulksell.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SingleList&sellingMode=AddItem, do you have a link at the top right which says Switch to Quick listing tool? That might be the issue...

You should be able to access the Advanced Listing Tool from the Seller Hub.

From Using the advanced listing tool:

❝You can find the advanced listing form in My eBay or Seller Hub.

If you're new to selling, or you just sell occasionally, use our quick listing tool to create your listing in just a few minutes.

If you want to see more options in the quick listing tool, such as quantity, reserve price, duration and schedule listing, here's how to enable them:

At the top of the listing form, select Change listing preferences.
Tick the Enable more options box and Save.
Select More options to view your additional listing options.

If you still find you need more listing options, use the Switch to advanced tool link at the top of the listing page.❞

I hope one of the sellers here weighs in on this. I can only say that the Selling fees without an eBay store page definitely states that the listing fee (aka insertion fee) is only charged once if you create the listing using the quick listing tool. The same goes for any feature fees (subtitle, second category, etc.) if you choose to have them; you'd be charged for those features once.

I can see the text to which you referred. It appears to me to be general text that is non-specified. By saying "you'll be charged applicable fees", it applies to anyone. For a non-store seller who hasn't used up all of his/her free listings, the applicable listing fee will be $0. If that seller uses a second category, there will be a fee ($1.65...?) If the seller uses a subtitle, that's $4.40.The applicable FVF would be ... well, whatever the applicable FVF is for the item. (And if there's a promotion for FVFs to be $3 - or (who knows?) $1, then the FVF would be as defined under that promotion.)

Insertion fees, or one of your freebies, is charged whether you use the quick listing tool or the advanced. If you add features, like a subtitle, it is also charged when the listing relists after 30 days.

If eBay allowed GTC listings to roll over every month, without being charged an insertion fee, then everyone would use the quick listing tool.

Thanks, that would be the tiny print I need my glasses for but if Tippy is right then we would still be getting the relists taken out of the 40 free or pay further insertion fees 😞

The relists are taken from your 40 if you are non store, like me. Countess is only a buyer, so can only go on what she finds on the help pages. Sellers have tried both options and both come out the same. It doesn't matter whether you list with the quick lister, or the advanced, it makes no difference. When a BIN/GTC auto relists, it comes off your monthly 40.....or if you have no more freebies left, you pay an insertion fee.

I use the quick listing tool on my other account and when they renew they don't take one off my 40 freebies per month. But to do this you have to be not subscribed to seller hub. If you have seller hub the quick listing tool link will redirect you to the normal listing tool, which is why it looks the same to you. The real quick listing tool looks quite different to the advanced. I can add 40 new items per month regardless of how many sold the previous month using it.

This has been a vexing point, since tippy*toes pointed out her personal experience as a non-store seller.

@tippy*toes, are you subscribed to the seller hub?

I feel like listing things for the sole purpose of testing this whole wretched auto-renew thing. But I also don't feel like doing that because I don't actually want to be an eBay seller!

(At any rate, it would be interesting to see what eventuated if a non-store seller (who had been charged for the auto-renewed listings that were listed using the quick listing tool) were to complain to eBay CS, pointing to the relevant policy wording.)

I am a non-store seller and the reason for this post was that all my GTC listings renewed 24 June and I was charged $1.65 relisting fee each and the 40 free listings I had to end of June were not used.

I did not realise this until Monday 1 July, approx 1 week later.

I was not aware of the Quick Listing Tool or eBay Hub so I do not know the why and wherefores, I just did what I have been doing for the last 11 years.

eBay help and responses to this post have been very helpful. I am more aware now and will be following Countess' advice ...

I opted out of seller hub on one accout. I relisted items using the quick lister. They rolled over and I got hit with $1.65 for each item! Thankfully, ebay kindly gave me a one off credit refund for the fees. If others are getting it, great, but I didn't. I wouldn't bank on it working.

Yes that's correct. But it didn't work when I just clicked opt out of seller hub, I had to go to my account subscription page and press unsubscribe then log out and back in. I tested it for a little bit first with just a handful of listings to make sure it worked as we all know ebays history in doing what the page says is not good but it's going great now. The only problem with it is no seller hub for printing labels and sending items etc which I much prefer the hub page layout but for free listings it's worth putting up with.

You scared me for a minute because my invoice this month is a lot larger than normal... I checked the itemised bill and didn't realise I ACTUALLY SOLD A COUPLE OF THINGS LAST MONTH 😮

I hope your situation works out for you. I am a non-store seller and if I don't get any sales that month my bill is zero so I'm not sure why you were charged. I have about 20-25 things listed and many have been up there for quite a while, so rolled over month after month at no charge. I use whatever Ebay selling system is loaded. I believe it may be Advanced because I think I have the Seller Hub.
