VALIDITY OF AN EbAY TRANSACTION

Hi to all,

I am knew to eBay with 15 positive transactions & one unfair negative feedback that has reduced my feedback %, drastically to 94.1%.

I recently refunded a paypal payment from a winning bidder who would not confirm his identity or shipping address; also this user had hidden feedback & was unresponsive to any of my questions.

As a result the user left me negative feedback.

My issue is..since the user had a post office box as his paypal shipping address...is this valid under eBay/ Paypal policies?

I did read somewhere that a P.O. Box address is not a valid address/ shipping address, therefore if this is so, then the negative feedback left me, under these circumstances should also be invalid ?

Do I have a right to have this feedback removed, as my requests to date have not changed anything, but left me with a damaged credibility.

PO Boxes are perfectly legitimate so there was no reason for not sending. It's not necessary to ask the buyer to confirm their identity, or their address since they select and confirm it already when they go through checkout.

I use one (a PO box) myself - it's more secure and while some sellers won't ship to them it's usually because they use couriers, which can't deliver to PO boxes. If you're using Australia Post, there's no reason not to send to one.

If you have any concerns about sending an item, just make sure that you send it registered to the exact name and address on the PayPal payment notification.

And I would say no, it's unlikely you can get that feedback removed, since according to you it's factual, in that you didn't follow through on the transaction despite the buyer having paid.

PayPal requires proof of posting to the PayPal registered (shipping) address. So I don't think there was a problem posting to P.O.Box.

But I'm not an expert. So I'm not 100% sure.

But Sending $100 item by 60c postage with registered post is not a good idea because Australia Post won't compensate for letters even though you register them. I think it's better sending as registered parcel for $100 cover.

I send my items to P.O.Box all the time. P.O.Box is usually safer than posting to an address if it's regular post. The mail can't be stolen from mail box, For the registered post the buyer has to show ID to pick up the item. I would have posted the item to the P.O.Box if I were you.

As for your feedback percentage drop, you can start a new ID if you want your 100% back. Not many feedback to lose.

I have a PO box for my mailing address and have completed more than 500 purchases over 4 IDs without a problem . . . . EVER. There were a couple of transactions where the sellers were insisting on using a courier and I either had the item sent to my wife's work address OR to the local StarTrackExpress depot. I would recommend to all that a PO Box is the way to go for eBay purchases.

Your followups to feedback left for you have done you no favours. If I was a buyer thinking of buying from you and I checked out your feedback I would hit the back button and not look at your listings ever again.

Gosh, I would be a little less concerned about getting the neg feedback removed, and instead sit down and read the ebay Policy - on feedback if nothing else. You aren't allowed to leave an unrelated to transaction feedback comment - besides, it looks shocking!

As to your original post - i actually prefer p.o. boxes to street addresses. PO Boxes dont have sticky fingered posties or neighbours, or incorrect numbers or the like.

In the time I have been selling I have had at least 6 to 8 parcels each year go stray, but only ever had one to a po box (last month) - and it was one of those "Town X via Town Y" ones.

What a mess indeed.

"My issue is..since the user had a post office box as his paypal shipping address...is this valid under eBay/ Paypal policies?"

Sending an item to a Post Office Box is INFINITELY safer than selling to normal street address. MILLIONS of businesses the world over use PO Boxes. It is absolutely 100% allowed under eBay and Paypal rules.

Private Feedback is VERY common and means absolutely nothing

"Do I have a right to have this feedback removed, as my requests to date have not changed anything, but left me with a damaged credibility"

The Negative Feedback you received is TOTALLY fair. You cannot get it removed, as it is YOU that has broken eBay Policies, not the Buyer.

You will almost certainly get another Neg if you pull the same stunt again. In fact, if you do it again and the buyers report you, then you may find yourself restricted or completely suspended.

Ebay is really simple... When buyers pay you, say "thank you" and deliver what they paid for.

OP if your excuse of people being a scammer is because they have private feedback and a PO box then you better not sell on ebay any more.

Put in your listing at the top in huge letters so it can not be missed that you will not post to PO box addresses or buyers with private feedback.

This will make a lot of people hit the back button and then you will not be selling anything!!!!!

PO box is the safest form of delivery as it can NOT be stolen as happens when items are left in the letter box or at the door.

Please explain WHY private feedback and PO box addresses = scammer?

Sparklz, you have forgotten that the OP has taken issue with the fact that the buyer would not confirm his identity.:^O
