Filtering out China - Trade retaliation

I would like to see Ebay Sellers have to compulsorily have to list the Country of Origin of a Product. China has just blacklisted Barley imports & Beef from Australia due to the Australian government seeking an international investigation in Covid-19 origins in China. I want to retaliate against China, denying my trade to China in Ebay by filtering out China Sellers and goods.

In that case I suggest you

a) Contact eBay

b)Stop using eBay

c)Grow up

If is that important to you, then YOU investigate all items you want to buy

Don't forget to do it in all b&m stores too, for all items and cease using all goods you already have that were made in China

Unless of course you are simply a tantrum thorwing hypocrite

Due to the drought and bushfires, and consequent lack of animals, the price of beef was due to go through the roof. Maybe those suppliers will sell their beef to Australians, so we can get it at reasonable prices.

Just don't buy from any accounts registered in China, many of us do exactly that.

No so much in retaliation but simply don't want rubbish products or need to wait 6 weeks before they arrive.

Not to mention not wanting to risk buying from accounts that lie and cheat.

Are you not going to buy a new phone or computer? They are made in china. This will blow over, china relys on us more than we rely on them.

danieh, I won't say with any great certainty that China needs us more than we need them. At the moment there are red buttons being pushed in Canberra over China's ban on our barley and imports of beef in 4 of our abattoirs. We are selling our prime estates to them almost as soon or before they were advertised. It's about time we recognise who our friends are. Not the CCP. This is not a political forum anyway.

You should do some research and not listen to the media, The things China's banning has nothing to do with our main exports. They didn't mention the things that are most imported like raw materials such as coal iron lithium uranium etc or things that are owned by Chinese like large farms and wineries in QLD and TAS

The things that were banned have bigger interest outside of china.

China buys up to half of Australia's Barley exports. I have got 300 acres of Barley in the ground right now and was hoping it might make up a large proportion of my income / profit this year. Could have been pretty handy after sitting through drought recently with no income at all ( and no government wage subsidy payments to help either ).

Same with beef. China is one of Australia's main buyers of beef exports. The government wants to press a political point and the farmers just have to bend over and take one for team.

Not a problem ? well maybe not for you.

Look around your house, look at the clothes you wear, look at all the Chinese products in your life now. At a guess 90% will have a Made in China label. With an average hourly wage cost of AUD5.20 why would any Australian business pay AUD19.50 for someone in this country to make anything ?

Imagine how much more your life would cost if China stopped exporting those 90% of products you have now.

Suggest you go and research economics and the global economy.

You should hope that all the others, per your say, coal, iron, lithium and uranium doesn't follow shortly/later. Otherwise you have other means of obtaining your information, we all will be hearing it from the same grapevine. No researches required.

You do realize that Australia can sell to other countries in the middle east etc. I'm not trying to be an d*ck man, but really I don't throw all my eggs into one basket when working for myself, I don't import all my items to sell from china, I have other countries and local too where I source my stock from.

You do realize if there is a trade war it effects everyone and it will come back on china not us, lets say we put tariffs on all imports, it effects large companies, they will then blame china. as south coffee said. if china has a reduction in exports to some countries, that would effect their economy a LOT More.

I feel your situation but personally I dont think there's a lot to be worried about, this will blow over, You are watching the media too much during this epidemic the media is doing nothing but driving fear into people.

I get it that everyone wants a bargain, that's human nature. The problem with droughts and fires is that they push the cost of production for farmers through the roof as hungry animals require scarce feed that also increases in cost due to the drought. This happens at the same time as income from sales of stock crashes. The result is farmers don't receive any income for the period of the drought ( often years ) and also have to borrow heavily to feed their core breeding flocks to begin again once the drought is finished.

As a drought affected farmer, I,ve just been through an 18 month period of drought with absolutely no income and no support of any sort from anyone.

The way this works in reality is that farmers income works on much longer time frames than city wage earners. Crops cost a lot of money up front with the income coming perhaps 12 - 18 months later. Its the same with livestock. It takes around two years from the time of introducing the bull to the cows for a steak to land on a city persons plate.

Farmers rely on an increase in stock prices at the end of the drought as a way to partially repair finances and to start to draw some kind of wage again. If city residents want to take that away from farmers in order to " sell beef to Australians so we can get it at reasonable prices '' you are basically asking farmers to provide you with a product but not accept any wage of any sort for several years or any form of restitution for feed costs during the drought.

Are you willing to go to work for several years without any form of income, just so that others can save a few dollars and have your services cheaper ?

The thing about doing what you suggest is that it makes us be just like the other party. If you don't like what someone is doing to you, you shouldn't always just do the same thing back. I teach my little girl not to hit my little younger boy back when they have a fight, otherwise it just creates more problems.

When the other party gets over it, they will hopefully realise they were acting like morons on their own and realise they look stupid, and there was no need to do that, and that we were here waiting for them to stop and be good with us all along.

I'd also love to see ebay banning the use of the Australian flag on listing images and "au" in usernames for sellers based overseas and also for Australia based sellers providing china dropshipped products. It's Australia's flag...why do they get to use it?

At very least I'd like to have a way to set the "Australia Only" filter as the default so I don't have to change it every time I conduct a new search...if there is a way to do this, I haven't found it.

When you set the Australia Only filter you are seeing sellers who post to Australia, not seller who are in Australia. This shows you all the Asian sellers who ship to Australia as well as the Asian sellers with stock actually in Australia.
