which label printer to buy

Time to bite the bullet and buy a label printer. SInce ebay are charging me on postage i guess i should be using their labels and getting the bulk discount. Royal PITA.

Anyone know of a thermal printer that can print the required 100mm x 150mm labels?

Was looking at a Brother QL 700 but they seem to only do 62mm wide, so far as i can tell.

The Zebra printers are far too expensive for my budget. Don't fancy throwing down $500+ for the privilege of using this 'service'.

As usual, any help woudl be much appreciated.

I have a brother QL570 I would not be without it. They were about 150.00 when I got mine years ago now they are about 85.00. I do both address labels and small return address labels on mine. It has paid for itself many times over. Would not hesitate getting another one. The 700 should be the same, you just have different roll sizes you swap over for the different jobs.

Another option is to use a simple computer printer. As cheap as $30.

If you print landscape you can get 2 to an A4 sheet.

I use a dymo but not sure if they do that big (I would assume they do but it would be expensive to buy and for the labels). I thought most of the bulk stick-on labels are just normal print ones (from an A4 page through a printer).

And can you get continuous rolls for them? Havent been able to find any as yet.

Alternately, how much can you shrink the postage labels and still have the barcode readable by a scanner?

They should say what the width is for the printer as a basic requirement. The shipping company should be able to give details on the actual scanning requirements.

I bought a cheap laser printer for $30, set the default size to A5 portrait and cut 2 to a page A4 labels into A5 size with a Stanley knife. If you had access to a guillotine it would be even easier.

I also bought a very cheap, black only, laser printer from Officeworks. I just print one label in portrait then cut the sheet in half and use the front feed to print the next label on that half, no need to change the paper size, it still works perfectly.

Yes they are only 62 mm wide but the rolls are continuous. The address labels are actual size though. Go on the brother site it should tell you all that there. open the PDF files there

I cant recommend a printer. I have been using the same printer for 9 years now which hasnt skipped a beat. Epson Workforce 630.

But I can recommend a Label.

Avery Postage Labels L7169 (4 labels per page)

Best product for my purpose. Works great with Auspost Buisness saved PDF's. I also use the Avery online software to print them.

Funny YOU happen to be the seller of said printers....

A 200dpi thermal printer will not print a MyPost VERTICAL barcode clear enough to scan. The resolution is too low due to the narrow gaps in the Australia Post VERTICAL format.

hi I will let ya know soon has got the ql700 here the 62mm thing is the height NOT width on it. the width can be up to a 1m. Is going to check something with their software if hunch is right you should be able to bring the Auspost label into the ql700 software where it will either resize it auto or you should be able to manually do it.

Soundsugly asked the question FIVE years ago. If they haven't resolved the issue by now, there is a fair chance they never will.

just to let op know the ql700 will auto resize. And from a quick test with a bar code reader it will read the barcode. Also tried a qr code resize and that also works fine.

seriously don't do that, buy a proper label printer. . I have the Brother QL 810W it's flawless.
