I sometimes get buyers like this who just need some reassurance. Many text messages are just fired off very casually- I sometimes have to role play it as a friendly but brief Aussie conversation! To me they sound like they have some doubts - quite normal if they haven't bought online a lot - or it might just be their style.

As another person said - just go with it. If you have described it accurately you won't have any problems.

I believe there are seller protection rules you can read. I've never needed them. The odd few problems I've had I just go straight to Ebay direcctly via phone or chat now during Covid and I have alwys been supported fortunately so far.....

I accepted an offer for my camera and the next day got a message from the buyer saying: “Thanks for accepting my offer, I will be processing payment as soon as I get a response from you to this, can you please confirm that everything is excellent working order and no issues or faults?”
Shouldn’t he have asked all this before submitting an offer? Something smells fishy. He hasn’t signed with his name or anything. He has no feedback at all.

@twilight-valley wrote:

From what you are saying, it sounds like a relatively new ebay buyer and he has committed to something that is reasonably expensive.

So he is a bit nervous, as I would be too in his situation. It isn't necessarily fishy but it does indicate he has concerns/doubts. His mind isn't fully committed to paying just yet.

Yes, he probably should have asked questions before making an offer. I presume your ad already said something though along the lines of excellent working order, which is why he made the offer if the first place, and he is now just double checking.

If I were you, I would have done as you have done, just sent a friendly reply back via messages to confirm it was indeed excellent working order etc. I sometimes think it would be good if ebay had a computer program on messages that would show when a message had been read. But it doesn't. If a person asks a question though, then a normal person would be checking back to look for replies, you would think. You can't know at this stage if, even with your reply, he will have the confidence to go ahead and pay or not.

So just sit back and wait for payment. If you get no payment and no response though, I would go ahead and open an unpaid item claim with ebay.

His account was opened in 2017, and when he made the offer I looked at his feedback and there was nothing there. I’ve since found how to go back and check further and he has a negative (out of only two transactions) as a seller, and it says he does not communicate and has ignored the buyer, who was seeking help from eBay.
He has ignored my payment reminder and we are now on day four with nothing from him at all.

Cease all communication. He's not going to pay, so as soon as it allows later today, open a non payment dispute. Then go back any time after exactly 4 days later to close it and get your fees back. You can then relist the camera.
