Just noticed a new icon between the Ebay deals and Help button at top left of screen.... " Coles on ebay ". ( a bit of major product placement there )

Coles online shopping is now available to some ebayers, based on postcode. One advantage appears to be that the purchases will be safe dropped at unattended residences. Order while at work and the stuff is on the doorstep when you get home. Would you use this function or just go direct to the regular Coles online site ?

With Coles online it is a bit of a lottery sometimes when you are at the mercy of a staff shopper (I refuse to call them 'personal shoppers' because I'll bet they wouldn't choose mouldy strawberries or meat due to expire the next day for themselves or their friends). Thankfully, I've had less issues with that compared to other customers. Coles does have a nominate substitutes option but it is very rigid.

Woolies however lets you add notes to each item you've ordered - ie what you want as a substitute, longest expiry date for perishables etc so you do have more control. It also saves these notes.

The Missus is blind and uses a talking computer programme to do virtually all of our shopping online. She mainly uses Coles as they often have same day delivery in our town and tend to be a bit cheaper, but is quite happy to use Woolies if necessary. I cant really see much advantage with Coles on ebay unless you needed to use afterpay.

I just thought the very high product placement at the top of every page was interesting. Ebay are obviously hoping it will take off and become a major feature for the site, drawing regular buyers in. I suppose they cant be shot for trying. If it works it will help all sellers out through increased traffic. Not holding my breath though.

I hate Coles, and the eBay version isn't available here. I changed my postcode to Melbourne months ago to have a look and there was sweet FA on there that would interest me.

I have both Woolies rewards and IGA. It's surprising how quickly they stack up. I save them up so I can do a big shop and get it free. Plus, we recently changed over to Woolies mobile (who run on the Telstra network, who we were previously with). Paying half the monthly recharge, to get way more data and calls (not that I make calls). The big thing is, every month you can get 10% off your groceries. So, if you only do one big shop a month, or even a fortnight, you can have a significant saving. While 20 or 30 bucks doesn't sound much, it is when you add it up over a year.

My step daughter swears by Woolies online delivery. Fruit and veg is the freshest you could get. Meat has a long expiry, as does dairy. If something isn't right, she gets in touch with them and they start throwing vouchers at her. Usually in the vicinity of $100. One time she ordered 100g of deli ham and got 1kg. Another time they didn't put the milk in. She got a $50 voucher for that, and they delivered the missing milk. When they forgot the potatoes and carrots, she got a $100 voucher. She was the one that got us onto Woolies mobile.

Coles, meh.

We have not ventured into the online grocery shopping yet, as like Dave said, we like to choose our own fruit and veg. Step daughter keeps hounding us to death to try it. She said regardless of when you order, you can choose a delivery time, e.g after 4.30, so you're not ordering in the morning, only to get home from work to discover your groceries have been sitting there for 6 hours in the hot sun.

Mind you, we are very much home bods, so any lockdowns this year have not caused any issues for us. So, going out to get groceries is a chance to leave the house for an hour or so. If we moved to online shopping, apart from work, we'd never go anywhere.

As far as the mobile phone stuff goes, living in a rural area, Vodaphone absolutely sucks. It really does. Optus is better, but still not overly great. Telstra is the best here. Therefore, moving over the Woolies mobile was worth a look. I can't fault it. Being on the Telstra network means we are getting as good a coverage as we were before. The 10% saving on our groceries, at the very least, pays for one month recharge on our phone. So, I'm effectively getting my phone service for free, with Mr Tippy getting a little off his.

You have to be a Woolies rewards member to get the 10% discount, and you have to link the rewards to your phone. It took about 5 minutes to do that. You are able to keep your same number.

Tippy, I don't know about anywhere else, but I'm in Melbourne and have done Woolies online shopping for many years now.

The voucher system no longer happens. If you don't get something, or something is wrong, you just get to talk to a bot, punch in the item number and it gives you an automatic refund.

Haven't had a voucher for well over 12 months.

But otherwise, having tried both Coles and Woolies.....I won't do Coles again.

Once was enough.

But Woolies 'personal' shoppers....If I say I want 4 bumps on the bottom of my capsicums, then that's what I get. (They sit better when cut in half and stuffed)

I don't have any gripes with the fruit/vegies selection.
