Hi there,

I sold item through the messages in eBay Do I need to have the buyer place it through the actual ad or can I just delete the ad?

from what i can understand - it sounds like you've sold an item via messages instead of the buyer purchasing the item through the actual listing?

this is playing with fire. not only is it against ebays policies (as you're avoiding paying final fees), but yourself and the buyer are offered no protection as there is simply no official purchase record of the item being sold.

How did you 'sell' the item?

Was it an accepted offer?

Have you been paid?

Or was it simply an agreement?

As advised, the sale has to be through a listing, otherwise eBay will not be happy.

If you have sold the item via messages, and the buyer has paid without clicking buy in the listing, there is a better than even chance eBay will suspend your account. Even though it has been done via eBay messages, it's still considered an off eBay sale, which eBay take a very dim view of.

If the buyer hasn't paid, then they need to click on the listing and buy it that way.
