@bugs007bugs wrote:

According to their own conditions you don't pay the fee if your item does not sell.

Hmm, it's pretty vague wording, or to be more specific, it can be technically applied in two different ways:

"You'll only be charged a fee for a promoted listing if it helped your item sell. If your item doesn't sell, or if a buyer finds your item through a non-promoted listing in search results, you won't be charged an ad fee."

So, is an item sold as soon as someone confirms purchase, or is it only sold when it can no longer be cancelled.

In the most existential wording possible - if an item sells and nobody wants to receive it, was it ever sold at all?

I read through the full terms of service, as well, and nowhere on either of their pages do they mention specifically what happens if an item sold through promoted listings is cancelled or otherwise refunded for any reason - that seems like either A) a severe oversight, or B) a deliberate exclusion, obfuscated by the wording of the quote I copied above, so that they don't explicitly say "no credits for cancelled orders" and put people off using them.

My money's on the latter scenario, but without an actual policy in place for what happens to promoted listing fees on cancelled orders, I'd ask them to show me where they advise there are no refunds for cancelled orders, and fight them on it when they can't produce it.

Hi all.

Had a buyer make purchase then requested cancellation almost immediately.

Followed through with the cancellation to then discover I was still charged a promotional fee.

Got onto ebay chat and am told they do not refund the promotional fee.

According to their own conditions you don't pay the fee if your item does not sell.

Can anyone explain what is going on re promotional fee refunds ?

Many thanks.

No.

I'm not mug enough to pay for promotions.

Having said that, I would have thought that a cancellation would result in ALL fees being credited.

Maybe dig into eBay's relevant T&Cs and find the guarantee that promo fees will be credited when a promo sale is cancelled.

All I can find relevant is this "You'll only be charged a fee for a promoted listing if it helped your item sell. If your item doesn't sell, or if a buyer finds your item through a non-promoted listing in search results, you won't be charged an ad fee."

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/listings/listing-tips/promoted-listings?id=4164#section3

and this

https://pages.ebay.com.au/sell/pl/termsofservice.html

Cannot find anything specific.
