Just make sure you send them registered post so they can't claim not received.

Very easy to bid on these and then claim not received as you state standard postage

Hello!

I have two gift cards up for auction at the moment, one at $50, one at $36.50. The bids are currently $52.00 and $37.90 respectively. (Plus I have $1 postage cost on each)

I'm a bit confused as to why this is? I've searched completed listings, and while they do tend to sell for very close to their actual worth, I'm just a little puzzled/concerned...

Any help would be much appreicated, thank you 🙂

Like annie said, many items are sold more than their value simply because some buyers prefer the ease of not having to go to the shopping centre. A few clicks on the comp and it arrives delivered. 🙂

Great advice, tazz. So, they are selling for close to or more than retail value? Well, might have something to do with your listing/reputation. Buyers may feel confident to pay top dollar for what you sell.

There's also the fact that some people (myself excluded!) buy gift cards on ebay to *clean* their paypal funds into money that won't have to touch their bank accounts, and thus don't incur income tax.

I quite enjoy receiving gift cards on birthdays and xmas, knowing I can sell them for face value to buy things I want using Paypal. There seems to be plenty of folk willing to pay face (or above face) just to avoid transferring their Paypal balance into their bank accounts.

AND how would that help oz?

eBay give Sales figures of ebay sellers to the ATO, so whether it went into the sellers bank a/c or not, the total of your sales for the year are sent to the tax office by ebay, not by paypal.

It may have more to do with Centrelink Putney, I don't know about in Aus but if you are on any type of means tested benefit here you have to provide bank statements so never withdrawing funds from Paypal would mean there was nothing to query unless their turnover was enough for ebay to pass their details on to ATO and Centrelink.
