Does anyone know, with absolute certainty, when ebay (Australia) intends to include / intrtoduce Adyen?

As close as I can find -

EBay will continue to let customers use PayPal as an option for checking out until July 2023, but most of eBay’s payments will be processed by Adyen by 2021.

I have called 3 times so as to get a different person that end, and I have messaged messaged ebay but their team either don't know or are instructed to NOT say. Their reply is that "ebay will contact you when it happens".

I doubt anyone at ebay would know exactly when it's likely to start, and the people who'd answer you definitely wouldn't have access to that sort of information. There are probably factors that are beyond their control at this stage. I'd imagine if they knew an exact start date they would have said so.

I am trying to plan the future for my business (this and a hundred other issues) and I have been on track to set up my own Credit Card Merchant facility, but if ebay is going to receive and hold our money, there is little point in me making those arrangements.

I did see somewhere on Dr Google that ebay planned this for later this year in Aus !!! If it is only happening in 2020 or 2021 then I would set up my own Credit Card Merchant facilities.

I believe you can no longer offer your own credit card merchant facility when you sell on ebay. I've seen it a few times when I've done new listings over the last few months.

It might be worth checking the announcements and the seller centre on ebay.com because they're often ahead of us in a lot of things. I'd also check e-commercebytes or whatever the website is that often discusses ebay announcements and interviews ebay executives.

Sorry, I did a dummy new listing just now and there's nothing about not being able to offer credit card payments, but I have seen it somewhere that you can no longer use it.

I'd say that if most of ebay's payments will be processed by Adyen by 2021 then it probably won't be that long before they start offering it, assuming they don't force everyone to use it immediately after they first start it.

In the third paragraph down (in the box) it says sellers can no longer offer internet merchant facilities on listings. It gives a couple of dates.

It'll most likely happen here a season or so after full roll-out in the US, so I'd keep an eye on things over there to try and gauge when that will be.

I'm pretty sure things are still in the opt-in only stage over there, though,

I can see a couple of potential problems (or issues) after reading your link. At the moment we don't have to trust that a buyer has paid if the dollar sign is showing, but we can check whether the money is showing in our paypal account so we have a back-up. No doubt they'll send us an email to say the buyer has paid, but that could be subject to tampering by scammers.

I really don't want a deposit in my bank account every single day that I get sales. I can manage my paypal account with multiple payments showing but I like to keep my bank records separate - and a lot simpler. I won't be able to pay my fees from my paypal funds either. It all makes for more complicated record-keeping for me.

Going back to their statement about paypal being available until 2023 but most payments will be through Adyen by 2021, how do they figure this? Are they going to find a means to push their own system, eg. discounts or the like?

At the moment, aside from the info available from eBay, I'm just modeling my assumptions or expectations on how it's handled on the other site - eg I believe sellers who have opted in on eBay can't accept PayPal at all, so credit / debit card payments is all their buyers can use, and that may be the same when it's introduced here, but there are some countries where the version of managed payments (on the other site) still isn't available, so PayPal is the only option for sellers in those countries, which might account for the statement about most payments being through eBay's system when the system rolls out further, i.e. for a while there might be some countries where PayPal is the only payment option. (I was able to keep PayPal separate from their payment system but that's changing in a couple of weeks, buyers can still use PP, but it will go to my shop account, not my PayPal account, so I initially thought eBay might try integrating PP with their system as well, but if it won't be available to buyers after 2023, it seems like they don't plan on doing that ).

On that site, payments are accessible the day after they're made, with sellers able to select daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly deposits (daily has a minimum amount before the deposit will activate, though), plus the option to request earlier deposits before the next one is scheduled, so I was expecting eBay to do something similar. Not sure I like the idea of daily deposits, either, as it seems a bit messy. I have one shop set to weekly and another set to monthly on the other site, and i have a set routine for those payments, with most of it being transferred to other accounts on a weekly basis, to account for GST, income tax , postage supplies that I buy in bulk etc, while everything that goes into PayPal is used for my stock purchases and other expenses, so I am not looking forward to having this system ruined. 😞

I notice eBay mention protection against chargebacks in the above link, but not in their seller protection policy I have a feeling that means the same requirements will apply (proof of delivery).

I might be "thick" but I have looked at digital*ghost's link and I see the timeframe being stated as ...

"We are planning to expand the experience to more sellers in mid 2019. By 2021, we expect to have transitioned a majority of our customers."

I cant find find where they say ... "full global roll out starting 2020"

I hope that ebay have people who monitor this discussion board and that they can post here, an intended start date for Australia.sothat I/we can properly plan the future for our businesses too.

Thank you so much for the update.

It is most important to me that this change being rolled out by ebay is not unexpectedly dumped on me by way of a message at 8AM on a Monday morning, as then being a "fait accompli".

As a related consideration, I note that when I have significant sales through my ebay listing, the relevasnt listings are simultaneously being promoted by ebay in Google.

My post-sale communications with each of those customers indicate that many of those sale opportunities have originated from my Customer conducting a Google search rather than "en ebayer" simply shopping exclusively on ebay.

I have tried ebay's "promoted lsitings" offering but stopped doing that some months ago as the cost was killing me.

So, while I appreciate ebay paying for my listing/s to be promoted on Google, it is sad that we appear to have a declining ebay family dedicated to shopping in our stores.
