Im still struggling to understand why somebody would buy a 'buy it now' item and then just not pay for it with no contact whatsoever from them. Its frustrating that ebay doesnt really help out sellers when this occurs - I mean its one thing getting the final value fee refunded, but what about when its the last item in stock, meaning that I have to re-list it at a cost to me.

Also, this thing about the buyer getting an unpaid item against them. Does that really acheive anything ? Not that I can see.

Anyway, rant over, lets hope sales pick up in the Christmas lead up 🙂

Yes an unpaid item strike does achieve something and if a buyer receives a few of then they lose their ebay account. It's very important to arrange for a non payer to receive a strike - it's the only way to make sure they are on their way to being banned.

Ah yes, but if a buyer gets their account closed then they could just open up another one with a different email address - Its not like they need to build up a feedback history (assuming they are purely buyers).

I'm not so sure eBay actively bans non-payers these days (if they do, it's unknown how many strikes it takes, and I know there are active members out there that have numerous strikes). If a member is banned, though, it's not a simple matter of creating a new account with a different email address - they're also banned from creating a new account, so would need to find more than a new email address. Not sure what happens to other, pre-existing accounts but if eBay place a sanction on one, it's supposed to apply to all).

The best thing you can do is block buyers with strikes (the most common one is to block any buyer with more than 1 strike in the last 12 months, but you can change the amount and time period if you want).

To do that, go to Account > Site Preferences > Buyer Requirements

Don't forget you also have the option to require immediate payment when 'Buy it Now' is used - your listing won't end until it's paid for thus saving you the hassle of having to relist.

i have a lot unpaid costumer,i don't get same,why buy if don't pay,ebay still charge the fees if you not open the case,if buyer loose account because of unpaid,they just open new one,it will be good if eBay will return negative feedback,because ebay protect buyers but not seller,because when you wait for payment 2-3 weeks you not only loose on fees,but time,in those 2-3 weeks you can sell for costumer who will pay

You do not have to wait 2-3 weeks for payment. Just open a dispute in 4 days and close it 4 days later...you will get your FVFs back and the buyer will get a strike. You can then relist.

totally agree,i sold to a non payer,gave him a few weeks,opened a case ,he still didnt pay,i cant leave neg feedback for him,checked his feedback and out of 75 transactions there are 16 saying dont sell to him,non payer ,still waiting etc,which had to be given on positive because it is virtually impossible to leave neg,shame ebay didnt look after the sellers, after all they are the ones they make their money out of, got me stuffed

eBay DO look after sellers. If a seller opens and closes a NPB case, the non-buyer will get a strike. Two or more strikes will mean they then can't buy from prudent sellers.

It is not virtually impossible for sellers to leave negative feedback, it IS impossible.

The aforesaid prudent sellers familiarise themselves with the requirements and safeguards of eBay, including setting blocks for serial non-payers, not leaving positive feedback with negative comments because that would result in policy violations if the buyer complained.

It's like any business - you read the rules and work out how to apply them BEFORE you go gungho.

But you would know that having been a member for six years.

How can the asforesaid prudent sellers identify and protect themselves from the INR scammers that are flourishing beacause sellers cannot leave sppropriate feedback.

Those sellers that are bold enough to record their perception of a transaction whether it be positive or negative have the same "helpers" that admonish sellers for leaving negative positives running and adding same to their blocked bidders lists.

How does ebay look after sellers in these instances?????

by trying to hide that information by disallowing those references and allowing the same scamming INR fraudsters to remove comments when they are found..........

How many links do you want to threads where

.... some of those same helpers.......

thanked profusely another seller for bringing the scammer to their attention?????

selective policy appliance IMO is not a good look but often the the only party I see gaining anything from that selectivity is EBAY

....... I wonder why? 😉

How does the strike system protect sellers from this?

What systems does ebay and paypal have in place to protect sellers from scammers like the ione ion the thread above?

How did the seller in the thread above identify that they were dealing with a fraudster...............

Who thinks the buyer feedback left and found by the seller in the thread in the link above is not useful????

It appears to me that it is because it is the best guess that suits their argument.

See how the 'helpers" steer the readers by not acknowledging that the neg pos brigade could just as easily open and close a NPB dispute as any other ebayer and therefore giving the buyer a strike as well as leaving "the mark"?

So if generic non payer feedback ($ non payiong bidder) was left by EBAY when a NPB dispute was closed in the sellers favour then the numpty NPB negative piositive brigade could not leave positive negative because.....wait for it...... ebay already has...........

The plain fact is that for that amount of sellers that leave a neg pos but do not open a dispute would be more likely to so that they could leave "$$$the mark$$$"

The blockers are happy and the lookers are happy.........................

The only person not happy would be the non paying buyer.......

I note the 'helpers" commenting in other threads that the buyer could just go and open another account........

So what is to stop them doing the same thing once they have too many strikes on an account?

Ebay could fix the problem easily rather than sanctioning sellers that do not give a toss re policy anyways

I have the blocks in place, and rest a bit easier, but recently I did have someone message me with..'oh I can't buy from you because I have unpaid strikes...what can you do?' and then shortly after., Item purchased and "oh it's OK i just used a friends account to buy it".

Hmmm... what to do then? Is that a violation? I can only suppose at least the 'friend' risks the strike if it happens again.

My pet hate - Sellers who not only don't open the UPI to give the strikes, but turn around and leave a neg with a green dot - All those sellers are doing is increasing the number of 'positive' FB for these buyer's, how does that make any sense at all? If a seller chooses to foroge the process, move on and cop the fvf etc then that is your personal choice, but PLEASE don't reward the buyer with a positive dot.

sellers live negative under green dot,so other sellers know,i live few times negative for buyers under green dot,because ebay cancel negative for buyers

It is stupid to do that. I doubt that many sellers check buyers' feedback anyway. All you do by not arranging for a non payer to receive a strike is help them.

Yes, it is a violation. It's circumvention of eBay policy and it is not allowed.. You can actually report the buyer as you have proof that they used their friends account to get around your blocks.

You would be well within your rights to cancel the transaction stating the reason why you don't wish to sell to the buyer; if they open a Non Performing Seller dispute then all you have to do is reply to this and state the reason why you cancelled the transaction..

Not sure if eBay use an IP ban for buyers who make new accounts to avoid blocks, but they should..
