Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with shipping costs to New Zealand?

I currently only sell within Australia but have had a customer ask if i could ship an item to New Zealand, stating that is usually about $7

The item i would be shipping i usually just post out as a large letter within Australia for $1.2, and i was just wondering if i could do the same to New Zealand? I had a look at the Australia Post postage calculator and it states $4.5 for a letter with the weight of the item that i would be shipping, but this doesn't give me an option to choose if it is between 5mm-20mm so im not sure it i have to post it as a parcel or not.

If i can post it as a large letter can i just put enough stamps to cover the $4.5 and pop it in a post box or do i have to lodge it at the post office?

Thanks for your help curraone, did you mean maximum width 20mm?

Or if you did mean 2mm, basically your saying they don't have a large letter option, so i would have to post it as a parcel under 500g?

Thick of my parcel in a bubble envelope would probably be 15mm.

Also when you say you should only post documents as a letter Is that true for large letters even within Australia? Because the ladies at the post office where the ones in the first place who told me as long as it was under 20mm it was fine. Hope thats not true cost iv sent alot that way 😮

What rubbish, if it's under 2cm thick it can go as a large letter and it doesn't have to be documents (AP sell CD mailers that go as letters)

If it is anything other than paper you need to fill in a CN22 and lodge it over the PO counter

You've got to use the customs declaration, but you can send anything that fits under the 2cm as a letter, I buy boxes designed to fit through the slot and all of my kits go as a letter

Aust Post website will give you all the correct info, price wise.....I ship to New Zealand about 20 items every week...

Normal C5 size envelopes will cost approx $1.65 up to 50grms, 50grms to 250grms will cost $4.50

You need to fill out the green forms, make sure you sign them in both places and put the cost of the items on the form, lodge at the PO.....otherwise it will come back

Actually mail to NZ seems to be safer than sending around Australia....

Yes you were, you suggested that non document letters should just be posted in a street box, by sticking a few stamps on them

and that rubbish about international stamps - they dont exist!

alanawent3133, get your facts straight before you start getting so confrontational. Most of the advice that curraone gave is correct.

International stamps most certainly do exist. They have a blue band down one side with InternationalPOST in white text.

And in lieu of using International stamps, it is possible to use domestic stamps + 10% of their face value to take into account that domestic stamps have GST included.

But I'm not exporting the postage, just the item so the item I can understand no GST but the postage is a service in this country

it just doesn't make sense to me 🙂

fred, its been that way since GST was introduced into Australia!

When you send mail out of Australia it is the other country mail service that delivers the mail, not AP, and domestic tax is not paid on exports, they are exempt.

But it is interesting that it is possible to use domestic stamps for international mail. Recently I was sending letter to my little granddaughter and I affixed a pretty domestic stamp with unicorn on it and expected to pay what ever extra it needed. Not only that the PO staff would not let me do that, they scraped my unicorn stamp off. Told me it is not allowed to be there even if I paid the whole postage. 😞
