to kiwi an soul, thankyou, yes you get where I am coming from...it's not a big deal but at the time I posted the topic I was a tad annoyed at what had occurred, not what I had sold it at, it was only $12 less than what was offered but at the fact that I was emailed a few times and then when I agreed to what was offered then I heard nothing back then the bid...

I had an item *under my seller id, that I was selling for a starting price of $195, I had 20 watchers and one person emailed me asking if I had a BIN price, I said make me an offer and I will consider so she offers $250, I email her saying yes I will add the BIN option to the listing so she can purchase it, I hear nothing from her then I check and she has won the auction but cheaper than what she offered. Im a bit peeved at the fact she didn't get back to me and I changed it. Would u be annoyed at this or am I just being petty? She had plenty of time to get back to me as I emailed her 2 days b4 the auction had ended, even an email saying I think I'll take my chance and bid would have been nice.

Did you get $195 or more for it? If so be happy it sold for an amount you wanted. Yes the buyer should have advised, but it sounds like they may be new and unsure as to what to do and how to do it?

Unfortunately that can happen, next time remove the auction price & just have the BIN price & tell your customer she has 1 day to purchase, (for that matter anyone watching could also purchase at that price) if she does not put it back up for auction.

If $250 is closer to the price you were hoping for on auction I would have the starting price a little closer to that mark & hope it would get bid up to that amount.

Don't take much notice of watchers - most of them are exactly that - people watching, its no gaurantee they will turn into bidders.

Cheers

Buying on eBay (or any auction) is a game; the seller tries to get the best price, the buyer tries to get the best deal for themselves. They have conflicting interests there is nothing impolite not telling the other party what they are going or not going to do. The buyer does not have to be telling you their intentions. What difference it would make if they send a message saying, maybe we will bid after all? Some seller may use such a info and get their mate to bid $245.

Obviously, I did not see the bidding history, but if the other bidder bid before they got around to buying, they had no option but to bid. And as you can see the bidding history, why would you also need an explanation from the buyer?

Greed can get the better of all of us. It certainly has for me, on my selling account.

If you were originally happy with $195 after careful consideration of a sale price, then anything over is a bonus. I'm mostly peeved / disappointed when I start something for much less than I paid and it only gets one bid... or when I know something is worth a good amount but doesn't even get one bid at rock bottom prices compared to what it's selling for. I think to myself - BID! It's CHEAP! ... You can't force people to buy something. 20 watchers... far out. I'm jealous!!!!!!

yep and I would have been happy with the $195 I sell alot of stuff for dd who buys designer dresses wears them once then sells them so the buyer is also getting a good deal, this particular dress cost $450 worn once only. What I was peeved about was that this buyer contacted me twice before bidding asking if I had a buy it now price, I suggested to make me an offer which she did and which I accepted, because I had so many watchers I emailed her and advised her what time I would list it as a BIN so that she didn't miss out. Then after two days still nobody had bid and I had not heard from her. I checked today and she waited till the last minute and bid and won the auction at a lower price than what she offered me. I was just annoyed that there was no contact after I agreed to her request but it turns out there was a reason for that.

I've read the entire thread. Yes it's annoying when you do a potential buyer a favour and they don't follow through but they aren't obliged to. I've read in the boards that some members who ask for a BIN price don't end up buying but it doesn't violate a policy just like buying the same item for less doesn't. It's worse when you need to deal with a non payer. At least you have sold the item.

Why would the buyer pay more if they didn't have to? Had you ended the auction and re listed it at the agreed BIN price then she would probably have purchased but she would have to be nuts to use the BIN if there were no other bidders, she probably had a snipe set at the price she agreed to pay and if anyone else had bid would have been happy to pay that much if she ended up winning.

You seem to be confused about what an auction is. Why should anyone tell you what their intentions are. You were asked a BIN price and the bidder decided to go another way. Nothing to do with courtesy whatsover.

actually Goose I am not confused at what an auction is??? I have sold many items on ebay and actually have had requests quite a few times if I would end the auction early with a buy it now price...most of the times I say no and let the auction run its course. The items I sell always have a high number of bidders but often they bid right at the end. People that buy what I am selling no the quality and obviously see when something is a good price. The only reason I agreed to the BIN on this occasion is because I am going away on the weekend and it was easier for me to post it prior to going.

Phorum, the buyer obviously didn't want to miss out and that is why they approached me with a BIN price.

The only reason I agreed to the BIN on this occasion is because I am going away on the weekend and it was easier for me to post it prior to going.

So actually you were not doing the buyer a favour, you were just doing your best to sell your item as soon as you could, for as much as you could get for it. 🙂

How ironic is that ? They didn't want to miss out on your item and requested the BIN option only to bid and win it for less.

This thread reminds me of Seinfeld which was said to be a show about nothing........
