Thanks for your reply.

A question or three - What is the best way for us to estimate/guess the postage once we pack securely, weigh, measure the parcel - Do we select the furtherest postcode possible to estimate postage?

If prospective buyer sees the amount because they put in their postcode and it is cheaper, what happens then?

Should we Register each parcel to give ourselves protection against say damage, not delivered and all the other things than can happen to a parcel?

Use calculated postage and put the weight, dimensions and postage type in.

The calculator will automatically show the correct postage depending on where the buyer is located. The only time it won't work is if the buyer has moved or is sending the item to somewhere else.

Thanks Dave,

It's not actually the postage calculator, it's the one where the buyer puts his postcode in so that we can work out the approx. cost. Hope I have explained that correctly.

I have seen the the postage calculator but that's not it.

That would be 'freight' and I know nothing about that.

Just be aware that a lot of buyers want to know the postage cost up front, so if your items can go with AP, that might be preferable.

We know it's $15 to send anywhere but does that include the weight of it and the cubing?

couple of points Di..... most importantly, Australia Post is CLOSED on monday and tuesday..... holidays.

if you choose Calculated Postage

and put in the exact weight and dimensions of the parcel, when you look at the item it will show the postage to your postcode (if you are logged into eBay).

if I look it will show a different postage to Melbourne

and if Dave looks at the same item it will show different postage again, as he's in Canberra..

so.... although you, as the seller only see a cheap postage, people in Perth, Sydney, Darwin or where ever see a differnt price to Their postcode

PO staff are not experts for eBay listing or calculators. They put parcels on their scales, cube it, enter postcode and the price comes up for them. To check individual parcels for postage costs you would be better off looking at AP site: http://auspost.com.au/products-and-services/postage-assessment-calculator.html

As said above, if you look at your listing you only see postage to your postcode. However, if you log out, look at your listed item, and click on the tab for postage then you will be able to postcode - any postcode and see what comes up. Is that what you meant in your original post? I never look at anything while logged out; forgot you can do that. 🙂

Di you dont guess ANYTHING, just select CALCULATED postage, and put in the exact measurement of the parcel and the exact weight.. it is all done automatically then, calculated by the computer when an eBay buyer looks.... you do NOTHING but the weights

yes you should choose Registered Parcel Post as the option, to cover yourself in case of a paypal dispute.

once he gets the hang of selling, get hubby to check out CLICK AND SEND, it's an aust post delivery choice that is cheaper than registered, and provides paypal protection too.

If your items will fit in the ebay branded satchels, 500g and 3kg which are processed and paid for on line through click & send then that is the most cost effective way of sending with tracking that will give Paypal seller protection. You can also use the B1, B2 and B4 AP boxes with click and send.

As they are all sent flat rate to anywhere in Australia you can use flat rate postage and just enter what you want to charge including a small amount for packaging and handling.

If something is worth more than $50 you should use the signature required option which means you have up to $100 cover, anything over that and you have to purchase extra cover.

For parcels that won't fit in satchels then if you wish to be covered for seller protection you will either have to use click & send with your own packaging which costs $1.50 on top of the stamp cost or registered post.

Anything under 500g goes at a flat rate, it is only parcels over 500g that you have to worry about. For them you just choose calculated postage, select which service you wish to use and enter the dimensions and weight, add any p&h charge and then leave it to ebay.
