I keep getting bags returned also by the new ebay verifiers, but not because their authenticity is in question! I welcomed the arrival of the authenticators. If I purchased vintage French bags for my own collection 75% of them would turn up as counterfeit. Most sellers just did not seem to know the difference between real and fake, I don't think they had malicious intent, they just did not know how to identify quality. I've sold Hermes, LV and Chanel on ebay for 22 years and had an unblemished record. I was excited about a verification team coming on-board and was proud to send them my 100% guaranteed authentic handbags for their examination... which they promptly returned! Reason? They say my photos don't match. Huh? My photos are of the exact vintage item, any fault is identified in the listing, and my buyers would have been thrilled to receive their purchases, as they have been for 2 decades. This is my livelihood. Today I phoned ebay to discuss and got a rude American woman on the other end who advised me to start selling my items "somewhere else"! So I will. I've closed down 90% of my inventory tonight and will wind up my store by the end of the week.

Frankly I'm disgusted and terribly upset. I suspect the authenticator team will soon reject any bag that is not BNWT. At least they didn't accuse me of selling a fake!

I keep getting bags rejected by eBay authentication over authenticity concerns, despite knowing the bag's originator personally and/or certifying it with certain authenticators, that eBay doesn't care about. Then, I'm slapped with several day bans on selling, now extending to 10 days each time. I can't go on like this. Is there any third party authentication service for handbags that eBay will take as authoritative enough to dispute their own 'findings'?

Is eBay authentication for handbags even real?

Not a single brand of bag, I need an authentication service that eBay can trust. Bag's originator as in the person who gave us the bag, could be a trusted client or even store.

Have people had good experience with Entrupy? Is that pretty much what eBay uses or would they rather dispute that as well?

I don't know 100% that they are authentic, but then again I don't know 100% that eBay is being always truthful about what's authentic or not. Hence the query about finding an authenticator that is better aligned with eBay (that would make calls similar to eBay's whether or not they are 100% correct)

The major point is about finding a better authenticator which I believe we can all agree is a good thing.

They would be from my known clients who had bought the bags in the branded stores in Hong Kong or even outside of Hong Kong on travel. Look, if no suggestions are forthcoming in this regard I would just have to buy Entrupy and see what happens. I hear a lot of false fake reports from Entrupy (well they don't call it fake, they just call it "not identified" or something), which is fine by me as long as there are few false negatives (things they call genuine that eBay will call fake)

Entrupy themselves only give them a 99.1% correct evaluation score - you can be certain that eBay is NOT going to take their evaluation over their authenticators.

However, the number of very good quality fakes is rising and they are a lot harder to detect. Some high-end shops (eg, Cosette) might be selling some fakes if they do not source every bag direct from the designers.

Unless the item came from, for instance , Chanel, or YSL, or Gucci, etc. — directly — there is a possibility that a costly bag is not genuine. If it’s from China/Hong Kong, the possibility is increased.

You're importing from HK — you say you’re not sure they’re genuine — well, now you can be pretty sure they’re not. Your own authenticator will not be a reason for you to bypass eBay’s own authentication service.

❝If your item is eligible for eBay Authenticity Guarantee, it will be automatically added to the program, free of charge. There is no opt in or opt out option.❞

and

❝If an item doesn't pass authentication

If your item doesn't pass the authentication checks – either because the inspectors can't determine that the product is authentic, or because the item is not consistent with the listing and photographs – it will be returned to you and the buyer will receive their money back.

It's not possible to appeal an authentication decision. Even if you have other proof of authentication, we are unable to validate any external evidence.❞
