Suspicious buyer

I just sold an item but noticed the winning bid was from a member that was created on the day of sale, now it's been 3 days and they haven't payed and haven't communicated, can I straight up cancel the sale

Best thing would be to wait until it has been four days, cancel with the reason buyer did not pay

The 'buyer' will get a strike against their account (any more than 2 strikes and they won't be able to buy from sellers with blocks in place)

And then put them on your blocked list as well

Just to add though (just in case)

Did you fully complete sign up to Managed Payments and be verified to sell first?

And made sure that if you did, the funds are not simply on hold due to being a new seller?

We did all start as a new buyer or seller one day, were you suspicious on that day.

I wasnt commenting on your reply, it was based on the OP's opening that because they were new they were suspicious. I have had many so called established buyers, who have taken days to pay.

Its life, and yes they may be dodgy, but give them a chance

I agree that everyone in life deserves a chance, but in funkymonk's case that chance should last exactly 4 days.

In today's world, most people are familiar with online shopping and usually, you pay on the spot.

It's most unusual to be able to 'buy' something, for that transaction to be ffinalised, without actually paying.

We have a new buyer here who has committed to buy but who may very well believe that because they didn't go on to pay for the item, the whole purchase will lapse.

Most normal buyers would make some effort to pay. Unless it is an auction item, the prompt to pay comes up immediately.

I'd give this buyer the mandatory 4 days but not a day more. No communication, no payment, the seller needs to assume they are not interested. Plus they need a strike because if they continue with the behaviour of bidding at will but not paying, at least some sellers will be protected against them.

I don't think anywhere I said they should be given more than 4 days, but if you read OPS post it had only being 3 days. If you read any of my posts on this subject I would say raise a case after 4 days and 1 second. So not sure why you have an issue with my reply.

I don't have any issue with your reply as such and I am well aware that normally you say 4 days and that's it.

My reply was more for the benefit of funkymonk.

I think part of the problem on ebay for some buyers & sellers is they will give the other party a chance & the trouble with it is, it can drag on.

We got into that situation a couple of times in the past as sellers, where we ended up waiting a month (that was with some communication, mind you, as in, I am going to pay tomorrow etc)

So mainly for funkymonk, I was trying to give a time frame to how long they should wait.

My understanding is sellers have to wait for 4 days anyway, but if I were selling on ebay today, with no payment and no communication from a buyer, their chance would be over once day 4 had passed.

I know you do feel the same.

It would be a shame if funkymonk thought giving a chance meant waiting for much more than that.

Really - from where I sit - unless paid in 4 days - there will be no payment.
