applying discount

A buyer has brought 7 items so will send in 1 box but cannot apply a discount for reduced postage as I had items with free postage, how can I sort this out

If they have a Paypal account, refund them through that, or via their bank A/C.

I don't understand the question - you sold 7 items that were listed as "free postage" or, as we know it, postage included. There is no need to send any discount.

OP, all your completed listing clearly show 'free postage'

There is nothing to sort out

You can't now charge for postage when you were not charging postage to start with

My understanding of the question is that the OP had included postage in the price of the item (as we all know that that is how "free postage" really works).

They feel that by sending all the items in one box, and not refunding the excess postage cost (included for each item individually), they would be cheating the buyer.

Unfortunately you can't actually send an invoice with a discount greater than any separately listed postage cost.

The easiest way would be to ask the buyer to pay the full amount, then give a refund of the excess - I'm not actually sure if the "postage discount" reason is available when no separate postage is paid, but there is an option labelled "other reason" or something similar, which should work.

The OP is paying fees on the sale of 7 items - the postage included - as there is no free postage.

My thoughts were - and it seems in quite a few cases - the ' free postage ' which is included in the sale price may only just cover the boxed weight of the 7 items.

I'm with Dom on this one.

7 items it may well be, but all in all it adds up to 42 books.

I think the OP might get a shock on how much that one parcel will cost to post.

I would find out the postage cost for all items in one box first. Then if you feel you want to refund anything, just send them a refund and attach a message saying "discount for bulk purchase"

No need. You can refund through the sale.

Which has the added advantage of getting the fees on the refund credited. Sellers also don't get real email addresses. We do get phone numbers, but refunding through eBay is the easiest option, I have found.
