I’ve woken up this morning to a message from eBay telling me they haven’t charged fees and postage correctly and I owe $204. How do I find out why?

I also received that notification. Just recently I took advantage of an offer of 10 Free Postage Labels.

I wonder if that was offered by mistake and they are now reversing that and recovering the unpaid postage ?

Rubbish, it happens regularly with all sorts of companies, all over the world.

Just a couple from personal experience, I had a standing fortnightly order with an Australian company, it took nearly 12 months to receive an invoice, all payable within 30 days. Invoice was correct and duly paid.

Opened a telecommunications account with a fledgling Australian company, with invoices due monthly, six months down the track no invoices received and the company ceased trading. Several months later was contacted by debt collectors, with a demand for payment, returned serve with a demand for a copy of all invoices issued to verify the debt. Next contact from debt collectors was to advise that detailed invoices were not available and the debt was subsequently wiped.

I do not use ebay labels, but surely it can not be too difficult to reconcile what has been paid for and what has not and if you have incurred the costs it is time to pay up.

Just a tip if the unpaid charges finish up in the hands of a debt collector, the debt will automatically balloon.

The debts/ fee cannot accrue. They will take it out of your sale funds or from your attached nominated bank account or out of your attached back up credit card . It's part of the Ebay Managed Payments agreement

Hi, I have posted separately on this issue - and then sent an update today. Thought I would add it here as my post seems to have had limited spread, thanks.

Hi, update.

eBay did not call me back as promised - nothing new there I guess, although being an eBay seller and buyer after 19 years you would think some loyalty is fair.......seems not.

Also, for others that have commented, all of my postage labels are via Australia Post - meaning eBay should have got the postage rates correct from the start.

Anyway, I move on.

After some thought, including closing my eBay account and working with my bank to stop eBay simply debiting my account, I have decided, with much regret, to take no further action and "swallow" eBay's rubbish about what happened and accept the $100+ charge.

I will however check my account on 2 December for eBay's "explanation of charges" for an update - again, probably nothing will follow, sadly.

The one and only reason I have decided to "leave as is" is that I simply do not trust other on-line selling services - FaceBook Marketplace as one example.

So to all you faithful eBayers out there - eBay got me again !!!!

All the best, Russell

Ebay Customer Service have advised me these are uncharged Australia Post Charges and they do not have itemised details of the amounts making up this total amount supplied until they are billed to our accounts on 3rd December. You can then query the charges once you check them against your sales.
