Ebay seller changes completely unnecessary

It is not broken, it does not need to be changed - this is yet another pure money grab from Ebay Australia.

Times are tough enough for sellers (& buyers), you are going to push even more people off this platform.

Also, I don't understand why it's so necessary that I as a seller be forced to buy postage through Ebay?

And stop pushing promoted listings & higher percentages of advertising spend, get buyers to the site & off Temu, Shein & FB marketplace!

Who forces you to buy postage through eBay?

What changes are you referring to?

Other members are not pushing anything on you and nobody here is responsible for what eBay does, nor is anyone here pushing anyone off this platform

You and everyone esle have equal information if a seller's listing has been lifted from scam sites like Temu etc

It seems you are for some reason under the impression you are somehow 'communicating' with eBay by posting here

You are not, this is the member to member forum which is very read by eBay staff

Because that is part of the offset eBay require in order for you to get no, 0, zero selling fees.

The other part is that the buyer will be charged for buyer protection so you will need to look at your pricing, if your items are price sensitive.

Did you actually read the details, or just the email?

The walls of text they put in the links makes it intentionally hard and they want people to get flustered and ignore it... Cause who has time and patience to read walls of text to find out all the technical changes they make time and time again.

I made a listing a few days ago and in the listing ebay claimed that 41% of items in the category i was listing in were promoted listings LEGO PARTS.

If that claim by ebay is true then it clearly shows that the model they use is just a way to "shadow ban" "derank" listings that don't pay ebay more than others....

Like a dirty pyramid scheme.

Also , I want to know how much tax eBay pays in Australia but they don't disclose that info.

They don't have to by law but many other large companies do.

So why does eBay not show it publicly ???

I wonder how much eBay claim the changes they make to seller page etc. just before the end of the tax year cost to reduce taxes payable ??

Maybe its time some Australian made their own seller / buyer webpage that we can use.

Those issues may be annoying you but this is not a hive full of ebay worker bees.

It's a messageboard with members of the public.

I think it is possible some issues are flagged or monitored from time to time by ebay reps but I don't think every post is.

Quite possibly some other sellers here could agree with some of your complaints but like you, they have no power to change things.

And when it comes to FB marketplace, I think that horse has bolted.

I think ebay was possibly glad to see it go as it caters overwhelmingly for the sale of used items.

Temu is pretty well entrenched too. As a buyer, I don't like it, but millions seem to. Ebay has lost those battles.

Ebay has been implementing a lot of dodgy policies lately. My favourite is that when a buyer opens a return (for any reason), those funds are placed on hold. Then, once the item arrives back to the seller and the seller goes to issue the refund, instead of the funds on hold being released back to the buyer, the seller is forced to add a payment method (card etc) to pay for the funds to go the buyer. This is just ridiculous. It should be that the funds that were placed on hold are released to the buyer. It effectively creates a cash flow issue causing the seller to be out of pocket for double the sale amount for a while.

What is going on with EBay's charges this is outrageous. I dont sell much tbh an I am consistently getting my bank account charged for what seems like eBay's entertainment.

Is it because I do not sell alot? Because I have no issue with 13% + shipping costs are discounted which is appreciated + my advertising of approx. 10% on majority of my listing's.

But to make a sale an find I owe them with no fund withdrawal I am confused whos having a laugh EBAY

To have ebay employees trolling uncompassionately treating their sellers with blatant disrespect.

Have to say that was unexpected seeing troll responses to each genuine complaint made, dismissing the concern as if its ridiculous to even bring up.

Yet how many successful sellers that arent experiencing issues with ebay would have the time to minimise another being. Seems like corporate hive mind culture where ebay employees let off steam.

No need to be confused. All you have to do is look at the payments in your seller hub and it will show you the breakdown of your charges.

It would be a very good idea for you to read all about the 'changes' mentioned in the OP as the payment method for free selling will be changing

I'd imagine that eBay doesn't care what goes on in this forum. All they would respond to are a sudden increase of the same, specific problem being reported by multiple users via help / contact, indicating a fault with that particular system which needs to be urgently looked at. Everything else is handled by their long-running overseas script-driven customer service team to use their admin and user tools to carry out minor tasks.

As for upsetting eBay users with these new changes, I think that eBay knows that high-volume sellers (like with feedbacks counted in 5 numbers and higher) provide enormous profit to the company and that these sellers will also adapt to whatever change requirements eBay introduces in order to keep their profit rolling too.

I agree. Why does ebay come up with a COMPLEX MATRIX of user agreement with many moving parts!!!

They can simply REDUCE their very HIGH FEES &CHARGES across the platform!!!

eBay SHOULD NOT be charging fees on POSTAGE. They said it is because sellers try to DODGE fees by HIDING the price cost into the postage cost. But with all the advanced digital technology, surely ebay can determine what postage cost is reasonable. They even CAN determine the actual postage cost paid by the sellers from Australia Post LINKS!

It always looks IMPRESSIVE when eBay shows my Total Sales BUT DISHEARTENING to know that the Total actually INCLUDES Postage and from that GRAND TOTAL, eBay CHARGES fees!

The information does not include what Band the seller is on, nor is there any information if the seller doesn't link their eBay account to AP.

Nor does AP deal with courier despatch.

All corporations do and it is clever for them to do so. We are their 'customers' and it will be wise for them to know how their customers feel and think. Contained in these discussions here are our honest feedback.

It is now for eBay to take these feedbacks into consideration in their corporate decisions.

We are not stupid we can tell who these people are, from the tone and contents of their replies/messages.

eBay staff very very rarely read here

Nobody replying here works for eBay nor is paid by eBay to reply

eBay do not care who posts what here and are not going to 'see' or 'consider' feedbacks

By all means if it makes people feel better to kid themselves that eBay read their posts, go ahead

Plus, given eBay staff are not trained properly, have no clue about eBay policies and type from pre-written scripts when contact via eBay Help even if they did read more than a few posts over a long period of time, it would be pointless

Yes, there are scammers who post here, supported by the mods to do so who pretend to be 'eBay specialists' who ask people to contact them with their details so they can 'help'

But don't give anyone who doesn't know facts false information by claiming anyone from eBay cares

The comment by sandypebbles from which you quote does have a small mistype (sandy, I hope you don’t mind my speaking on your behalf for a moment …?).

It should be either “which is rarely read by eBay staff” (very typed or autocorrected instead of rarely) or “which is very rarely read by eBay staff” (rarely accidentally not typed after very). It is certainly not “which is very often read by eBay staff” as you apparently understood.

I wouldn’t say that eBay staff (of an upper echelon than the CS reps manning eBay Live Chat) never read here, but it is, as sandy conveyed, somewhat rare (in my view). Occasionally a buyer or seller posting on these boards with a specific problem which has t been well dealt with is afterwards contacted by an eBay employee, and the issue is resolved. It’s too rare for me to calculate … but certainly less than 1% by a country mile.

You then seem to suggest that eBay employees post on these boards. Oh suffocating amoebas in raincoats! No. They don’t. eBay employees could post here; there’s no rule against it. However, if doing so, they must - MUST - identify themselves as eBay employees, using a specific posting identity showing their status as an eBay employee.

To state that anyone on this thread is an eBay employee trolling eBay members is not true, and an incorrect accusation. Trolling posts would be moderated by the moderators of these boards (who are not eBay employees, but are the employees of the company that is employed by eBay to run the community boards - a distinction that needs to be made).

Comments that you deem to be trolling are frank, blunt, and probably not soft and soothing… but they are not trolling. Moreover, in spite of a tone that may rub you the wrong way, they contain information worth your considering. Members posting here often have good knowledge and experience, and even when they disagree with each other, in those disagreements will frequently come clarification of important points relevant to ever-changing eBay policy.

You’ll certainly get better information through reading threads here than you would by chatting to eBay CS reps.

Its ended my relationship with eBay .

I have 2 eBay accounts - I have an Australia post account & Am on the highest discounts so I have much better pricing . I use my 2nd account to sell 2nd hand & old stock items where as my main store is a shop outlet. I have been selling on ebay fo over 20 years & Most changes do nothing but make it harder to sell the odd item . Ebay works for my Shop but not for me to sell odds & ends !

I will be closing my eBay account & will seriously look at opening up my own webstore for my shop.

Ebay fees have become way too high & unless you pay more for your items to be "promoted" they become almost invisible.
