Do i have to do postage labels through ebay?

Do I have to buy postage labels through ebay since these new changes on May 12th 2026. Can i just post at Australia Post Office branch like i always did as i sold 3 items today to be posted to the USA and it says i can’t buy a label through ebay as Australia Post has paused postage to the USA because of Customs Issues. And i live in a small country town and my only option is Australian Post, i can’t access DHL, UPS etc. I also spoke to the manager at my Aust Post Office in my town and he knows nothing about a Pause on posting to the USA or Puerto Rico. Can someone please help me with this, thanks so much.

This is the message i get in Myebay, shown below here. Just so you know i am not a business, i am just hobby seller/swapper of items so i can buy more items for my own collection.

Are you on ‘free listing? If so, you need to provide a label……go to HELP and type in ‘free listing’

There are other threads on these boards about selling to USA, and the hoops you have to jump through. I will find one , and refer to it here…….

If it all gets too hard, you could cancel transaction with ‘problem with buyer’s address’, relist and change your listings to Australia Only

Thanks so much for your help. I can’t create a zonos account because i am not a business, i just sell the odd thing here and there. I sometimes go months without selling but i do get people mostly from the USA wanting to swap or buy from me. I posted one to the USA 2 weeks ago and it arrived fine. I knew about the tariff thing when it changed in August or whenever last year. I have sent 4 parcels over there since then last year and they all arrived fine. I thought this message i got in my ebay today when trying to do the right thing and buy a label through ebay, which is what i read i have to do which started yesterday the 12/5/26 was just to do with the changes in regards to No Selling Fees now. Mind you, you only get no fees if you sell within Australia, you still get fees if you sell to any to anyone internationally. Yes as far as i know im on the free listing cause i got an email about it. I am so confused.

What is your status at the moment? I’ve just swapped over (not to free selling) but it doesn’t affect me until June 1st.

Yes, i need buy shipping to post this sale to the USA. I have never purchased a shipping label prior to these new changes coming in yesterday. I just pack up parcel, fill in paper customs forms and go to the post office and post it. Never had a problem prior to today as i am not a business. But as per new rules starting yesterday i have to buy postage labels directly from ebay, but as i showed in the image i uploaded it will not let me buy and print a label to post my sold items to the USA. And when i spoke to the Aust Post manager in my town he knows nothing about postage being paused to the USA, but my message says it is paused and can’t be posted by buying postage labels directly through eBay. What a bloody mess this is.

FYI... you don't need to be "a business" to open a free Zonos account.

When the eBay free selling was announced, having a requirement to use eBay labels was taken by many as being forced to use eBay labels. The lack of availability to purchase a label to the US (suspension of service) was discussed, and the general consensus at that time was sales to the US should/could/would not be offered until labels are again made available.

I don't know of a solution as the issue doesn't affect me, but I'm sure there'll be many watching here to see if you find a work around.

Thanks for your reply. I tried to open one of these Zonos accounts last year when this tariff for USA thing came in and it would not let me and still won’t as i am not a Business. I just tried again and would not let me go further when it asked me for my Business info which i don’t have as i am just a hobby seller/swapper.
It looks like the only option is to change from the No Selling Fee ebay account to the Pro Starter account which gets a final value fee like it was prior to yesterday anyway and that way i can just post directly at my local post office instead of being made to but postage labels online directly through ebay. So ebay automatically putting me on the free sellers account a waste of time.
