I think 2 or 3 days for payment to be made is reasonable and ebay allow sellers to start a non payment dispute on the 4th day and close the dispute on day 8 ifno payment received.

I ask for payment within 5 days although I would extend that if the buyer requested it for a good reason.

Having said that, most of my buyers pay immediately or within 24 hours of the auction's end.

It also depends on what the buyer asks for. Some set up their items for immediate Paypal payment only, and some are happy to wait a week.

I think the sooner I can pay the sooner I get my item!

If you don't get it after that, I would send another invoice to remind them, give them another day or so then if still nothing send one more email politely asking if everything is OK and if you don't receive payment within 24 hours you will lodge a strike.

Not quite; eBay gives full 4 days before seller can open case, that means you can open case on the 5th day. Then the buyer gets further 4 full days from the moment they opened NPB case, not a second earlier, before it is possible to close.

I've had trouble with buyers not paying and not even bothering to contact me.

I now give them three days to make contact or make payment. If they haven't, I open an "unpaid" case and go through the process. Otherwise you're just wasting your time waiting.

However, there are a lot of good buyers out there and it outweighs the people who don't follow through.

I assume you meant four days, as that is the minimum time you have to wait to open a case.

I generally send an invoice within a day of the sale, then a reminder on day 4 and open the case on day 5. Seems to work; most pay once I've opened the case.

and yet buyers squawk if sellers have not posted within 24 hours of reciving payment regardless how long they take to pay 😐

Ebay send a reminder after 2 days, still nothing I send the invoice with a note on asking if they can give details of how they made their payment as I am unable to trace it (diplomacy!) and if still nothing by end of day 4 I open the dispute. 99.9% pay up before the dispute is closed.

I don't mind waiting for payment as long as the buyer contacts me before or straight after buying but if they don't pay on the agreed date then I don't send any more communication, I just open the dispute.

I haven't heard from the buyer even though I sent an email 2 days ago telling her that the item will be posted when payment is made. Still waiting!!!

Buy now in my books means Pay now. I do it and most of my buyers do too.

I don't request automatic payments because I would then exclude bank payments. The problem with that, when I used Paypal only, I'd get 3 messages a day from people requesting my bank details and 2 out of 3 of them would get my details by message and then not pay anyway. Too much trouble for all.

Since I know that eBay already send them a reminder, I think of it as a waste of time to send another one myself. Also, it borders on harassment. I don't expect everybody to see it that way but I think that, if somebody doesn't send me a message, they don't want me to send them one either. If they did they would contact me.

I don't wait more than I have to. I have automated UPI disputes to open on 4 days and close 4 days later. If it was up to me and not up to eBay I would do it within 24 hours. Anybody who has access to the internet to purchase should be able use that same access to pay or at least send me a message to let me know when or how they will pay. Otherwise they either don't want to pay or can't and that's what the watch list is for.

When I first started selling last year I used to check out my unpaid items list and found that those who had not paid me had bought and paid for the exact same item from somebody else for a few cents less than I had listed it for. When I want to buy something, the time to check prices is before I purchase, not after. If I'm not sure I use my watch list.

The system works automatically so no need to spend any extra time with it. It saves me time and the buyer anxiety. When they realise they have strikes on their ID (some don't realise how the system works) they can't buy from a number of sellers for a long time.

eBay provides the platform with the tools, I just use them. That way, UPIs are a small inconvenience, not a huge issue. I see it like a B&M store. If I walk into a store and find something I think I might like and there is only one of them, I'll pick it up and browse the store with it in my hand. Nobody else can purchase it at that time until I put it down. If I decide I want it I go to checkout and purchase it. If not, I put it back on the shelf and leave it for others to purchase.

Not a big deal.

Is this discussion inclusive of BIN items ?

I thought with Buy It Now they were meant to pay at time of the decision to BIN ?

I rarely have auctions so I do refer to BIN.

Immediate payment is only required if the seller chooses to have Paypal only as a payment method and not allow checkout unless payment is made.

On the other hand I accept bank payments so cannot request immediate payment. However, I do open disputes on 4 days.

They only have to pay at the time if the seller has the "immediate payment" option selected.

I treat BIN the same as if it was an auction re payment times because there isn't anything you can do to make people pay unless you want the "immediate payment" option selected but that stops them from buying 2 or 3 items and then getting a postage discount from me when I send their invoice.

I know some sellers really need the money but maybe they should have started the auction 4 days earlier if they really needed that money.

There is no point leaving it to the very last minute to try to get money from selling through ebay.

So goldfish, er calsof, sorry, if I have someone from Italy [yes, nail biting times] who can therefore ONLY pay by paypal & they purchase a BIN item they still have 4 days to pay according to ebay's rules.

I actually state in my T&C buyers have 7 days of AUCTION {not BIN} items ending, I hope the BIN buyers don't assume this includes their items...I guess I need to clarify that {I never used to use BIN, only auction}.

yes foxette my knees will be knocking when it goes off to italy, even as a registered parcel.

she does have very good feedback though & a reasonably high one at that so hopefully it won't be one of the ones we all dread buying from us !!

It depends on how you word the reminder, sushi.

Mine is along the lines of pj's (in fact I think I probably stole the idea from her in the first place). That often elicits a "Sorry, I forgot" and payment. It's only a C&P and a few clicks, so if it saves opening a case, well worth it.

I switched off eBay's reminders, primarily because I allow 7 days for payment and a reminder within 2 (and an impersonal one at that) doesn't suit me - I don't really do auctions, but a lot of my items are one-offs so I get that some people want to secure an item, as it were, even if they don't let me know that's what they're doing...

I send a message myself around day six, and if no response, I open a case a day or two later.
