Howdy guys,

I'm about to start up a new line or products (once stock arrives) and I'm trying to cover all of my bases before I put them up for sale.. the one thing I was wondering last night is... what if someone buys the product and than claims it to be a fake??

I will be selling the type of makeup brand that I know a lot of girls love but I am also aware that there are a lot of fakes going around.. Now I know myself that I will be selling 110% real products but how on earth do I go about proving that to the client without realising my wholesaler?? I know that when push comes to shove I would need to just give all the information to paypal and they would be able to see that my wholesaler is the real deal.. but is there anything I can do before that step?

I only ask this because once I had brought an item from the company and than put it up for sell because I never used it.. but someone tried to claim it was a fake... even though I brought it from the company! and it was such a hassle trying to prove everything

110% real product??? That says it's a fake right off because 100% is the whole of anything, or at least it was when I went to school 🙂

Being serious now ...

If you are buying your products directly from the manufacturer, or manufacturer approved distributor, you can prove they are the real deal, but if not there's always the chance you're dealing in ringins

If you get caught flogging fakes you're for the high jump right away, and you'll lose everything.

I am in fact buying from the manufacturers approved distributor, (I found them on the companies website as being approved) I just hate that they don't issue with cefts or anything along those line, like you would expect from some other places.

Can the Company supply you with a statement ?

Also ,If you don't already have one a DG Licence may be needed too to post some items using Australia Post .

No darl not MAC.

Urban Decay and OPI and Too faced maybe benifit also.

These are all high risk items though.. I even see fakes on ebay if I look right now =(

I did contact them and they said that they are found on the company's website as an approved disturbor of the products... maybe I should take pictures of the serial numbers along with some other photo's??? because the last thing I want to do as a seller is reavel my sources.

I don't know what to suggest Just Kits.Only that from a buyers point of view if a seller can't or won't prove to me that what they are trying to sell me is genuine ...I tend to think they may not be .

JMO but if a legit distributor won't supply any proof they ARE legit,I'd be worried before I even handed over one dollar of my hard earned money to them if I were you.

Have you contacted the REAL company & run it past them re where they stand in supporting you or the distributor ?

I'm sure it won't be an issue, I was just trying to cover my bases because I don't want to be scammed by someone claiming I'm selling fakes and trying to keep the product and get money out of me. I'm sure once they get their item's they will be more than happy with them.

Fingers crossed I don't have to deal with many scammers.. as I have noticed it seems to happen a lot on eBAY judging by these forums.

If your supplier is on the company's website then anybody who wants to get the product can find it, so I cannot really see your point. Maybe you can put in your description:

purchased from "the company's" approved didstributor.

and if anybody claims otherwise all what you have to do is fax PP the invoice

JMO again lol,BUT is there ANY way of being proactive ie getting something definitive in writing 1st?

The reason I'm 'going on about it' so to speak is just the Target scandal re selling the fake MAC ? So if a large corperation like that can be so easily scammed,a little seller like yourself just needs to be extra diligent.

Oh & I know absolutely nothing about those brands you mentioned although I've heard of OPI .

Actually Nova,you've made a good point the way I'm reading it which isn't the way you meant it though lol ie if the distibutor is listed on the company's website,what's to stop your everyday person just buying direct from them unless they have to make a minimum purchase ?

I know it's hard to see my point when it comes to selling item's that are being sold else where but I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to math and I found a way to getting these products to Australian shores and making them cheaper than how other's sellers have. (legally of course hahah)

Shipping from these places is what destory's a lot of international buyers.

also the other problem is a lot of these companies have a wholesale minimum e.g. You must buy atlease 100 items before getting a discount....

clearly this does not help the shopper who only wants one eyeliner at a good price.

Oh man I heard about that too!! K-mart, Target and all of those guys are buying a lot of fakes huh!!

Don't worry I will work extra hard to make sure they everything is real, even if I have to ship off some items for inspection!

Yes the brands I mentioned are mainly big sellers in the US but I have found a market for them here. mainly makeup guru's etc.

check to see if your supplier has copyright protection on their web page.

are they listed with bizrate? How far back?

How long have they been in business for? If you're setting up a business and these guys are your ONLY suppliers, what happens if they close up shop tomorrow?

Do they list anything similar to an ABN on their website - something you can check that way? What appears on their invoices?

(all rhetorical questions - just some things you may like to consider)

Oh also guys I just went onto one of the companies websites and what they do is load up a map where you can put your area code in (US) and they show you where you can buy their products from in store. (my supplier is on there) .. which is good for me haha.
