Hello All, Im an infrequent seller and consequently a bit rusty. I have an overseas auction winner whos been registered for 8 months with no feedback. He was a bit slow to contact me but has now and is asking for my email address to pay via Paypal is that odd or unsafe, as I said rusty. P.S tried using the Q & A section but wouldnt let me post. Thank you.

Hope they're not wanting posted to Nigeria???

And why can't they just use the Pay Now button like everyone else?

Sounds a bit odd IMO especially as you're selling gold with only Express Post???

You do realise you have NO seller protection that way & need to be using registered & insurred or click n send with signature etc

Its going overseas so I'll check out my shipping options.From what I understand Aust Post will not insure bullion using any of their shipping methods. I use a large precious metals forum for trade and here on eBay, all sellers on eBay/forum of bullion fundementally use express post the only alternative is private courier. Do you have a suggestion for a relatively more secure method?

So is it a security problem to supply my Paypal email, I dont want to direct him to paypal checkout tab if my email is supplied in there anyway, I just cant remember if its viewed. Thank you for your reply.

The buyer doesn't need to see your email addy-all they have to do is use Pay Now which will direct them to Paypal & they just follow the prompts.

That buyer looks scary IMO based on their bidding-which country do they want it sent to ???

If there's no coverage for gold bullion using AP then I have no idea how you'd post in a way that would give you seller protection with Paypal-sorry,you got me on that one.

Send them an ebay invoice and tell them to either use the "pay now" button on the invoice or log into ebay and use the "pay now" button from there.

You absolutely need full seller protection on this one, as you're selling in a very risky area to a buyer with a very risky profile.

Use advanced search to see what else they've bid on or are bidding on.

I would be posting express courier international if I were to use Australia Post, but I'm willing to self insure on lost parcels.

Check whether bullion is even legal to post to the country your buyer is in.

(If it's Nigeria then it's 100% a scam).

If you think it is safe to go with the transaction, instead of giving them your PayPal addy, from your PayPal account send a payment request directly to their PayPal addy marking it for an ebay purchase. That way the complete trnsaction is on record at least.

There is a good chance that the "buyer" is a scammer who has hijacked that account.

As you state,no feedback for eight months and they have now bid on 7 gold/bullion listings,(and possibly more).

As you can see their full ID,do an advanced search by bidder to see what else they have bought.

If you want the ID checked out just click on my ID and then select Send Message > pick a subject and then type the ID into the message box and then Send Message.

If it's a scammer,they will pay via a hijacked Paypal account or a stolen credit card and you will have no proterction at all,(you'll be left with nothing).

They could also send you a fake Paypal Email stating that payment has being made.

I'm with Tazz, it sounds like one big phishing expedition where they are trying to get email addresses and as much personal information as they can for a number of reasons the least worrisome is spam but the potential for at least partial id theft is also there.

Make them go through the "pay now" tab and make sure you use a trackable postage method, even if it doesn't insure the goods at least you can prove to Paypal that you sent it!
