Discounts for Buy Now items

Hi, a buyer asked me f I would give her a discount if she ordered multiple items, so I agreed. She placed the order then I tried to adjust the price on the invoice by adding a discount. It wouldn't let me. it says I need to enter a discount of $0.00 or less.

I contacted ebay customer support and was told that discounts are not allowed in ebay and I can only discount the postage which is stupid as they are free postage items anyway.

So hard lesson learned, cannot accept discounts in ebay. I will honour my offer to the customer but ebay will charge me fees on the full amount not the discounted amount.

Just through other sellers should know before they consider any offers from buyers.

Ask the buyer to pay and you will refund the difference.

The other options are to put best offer on your items, or simply set up a listing for the agreed items at the agreed price. That way you only pay fees on sale value.

Which most sellers would know.

Yes it is annoying.. I wish we could give a discount for multiples.

If my buyers are wanting multiples of the same item, I may offer them some for free.. eg, I will say, order 5 and I will give you the 6 required (one for free). As an example

The benefit of this too is that you will get the sales boost in best match (which is the best part).. and no listing fee.

Where I can with multiples if lowest price item = discount, I just split sale.

I send two invoices, one requiring payment, the other not requiring payment with goods marked as FREE not requiring payment and mark it as paid in ebay.

I also note on FREE invoice that goods will be sent in same parcel as other goods - for the record.

Obviously if discount is not at level of lowest price item this doesn't work, I just do a refund of difference then. Never had an issue with doing it either way.
