Pay pal refunds before item received

I thought with refunds, paypal waited for me to tell them the item was received? They told me it was received and refunded straight away.
Is this normal?

Maybe the follow the tracking? It happened to me too last week I think. I received the refund from PayPal, and quite a few hours later the seller contacted me saying they had received the item and would tell eBay so that I would get my refund.

In my PayPal email, it also said allow up to 5 days for the refund to show - it showed straight away.

Assume you are the seller and the buyer is returning an item.

When the buyer sends the proof of postage to paypal they often refund.

This is wrong really as you now have to fight paypal if the returned item is not the same as it was when you sent it.

Call paypal and tell them you have not got the item yet to ok the refund.

Ask for a supervisor if need be and fight it as this is why buyers get away with too much.

Well the whole story is seller failed to mention in the listing that the item is hollow not solid gold. I took it to my jeweller who said if you want it to last you cant wear it everyday. Now i am one for putting jewellery on and never take it off, so the item is not fit for my purpose. The seller orginally stated she wanted to settle the dispute amicably but then later decided she wasnt going to refund. I opened a dispute and sent the item back registered on the 23rd there was an attempted delivery to her home address on the 27th, it was carded and taken to her LPO where it has been sitting for 2 days awaiting collection. I provided photos of the registered postage slip and received a refund today. I believe the seller was hoping the parcel would be returned if not claimed and she then wouldnt have to refund.

But what is your problem?

You returned an item that was Not As Described and have received the refund after proving to paypal that the item was returned by registered post.

That is how the system works.

Im not trying to get away with anything. I returned the item I am entitled to a refund. Had the listing stated the item was hollow i would have never purchased it. Sellers need to be honest with listings

Was hoping to get the bracelet back. Still am. Post office not open 24 hours. Item started at $75 , not described as hollow, I'm not a jeweller so not convinced it is till it is verified. You also told me initially it was filled. I was mortified as I had it checked before sale. And offered a refund. Then you said you took it to jeweller and they said it is real 9 carat gold, as described .it is not heavy, approx 5.5 grammes, as shown in the photo.

I believe it is unethical of Pay pal to refund before I have received the bracelet, which is really lovely and I look forward to retrieving same.

also, for the record, you opened the dispute without contacting me, after your friend said it was not real gold.

I advise you to log in to your Paypal account and find their phone number and call them during the day. They should not issue a refund before a buyer returns an item.

With any refund paypal will usually issue the refund upon proof that the item has been posted by trackable post, be that registered or C & S. In Australia the important thing is proof of posting, not proof of delivery.

It would appear that paypal has jumped the gun though...the refund should not have been issued until the seller confirmed that they received the item that was sent, in the condition it was sent.

The problem appears to be that Paypal have refunded the buyer without waiting to receive confirmation from the seller that the item has been returned.

If you are the buyer and you got your refund then end of story and not your problem and it is up to the seller to get the ring back from the PO before it is returned back to you as it was not claimed.

It has made it a tad confusing as you are posting with 2 ID's.

Keep it to the ID in the OP and it will be easier to follow for everyone 🙂

Ok so the response to my post by jasminecat2012 (post 7) is the buyer and I was NOT saying you were doing anything wrong. I am saying paypal is wrong for refunding BEFORE the seller even got the item back.

My first reply was to the OP (now known as the seller) and assumed they were the seller as the OP was not very clear on if they were the buyer or the seller.

So seller needs to get item from PO before it is returned to the sender (buyer) as an unclaimed parcel then it would be up to the seller (OP) to then pay the buyer postage money to resend the item as they did not collect it.

Ok clear as the proverbial now 🙂
