If you have a receipt with the buyers postcode then that is sufficient for PP seller protection. If you just popped it in a post box then Paypal will invariably find in favour of the buyer. Depending on the value there are other avenues of appeal available to you but if it's not a high value item, then it's probably not worth the hassle.

hi guys, i sold an item a over a week ago, and the person contacted me yesterday to let me know they still havent received the item, and wanted to confirm i had sent it. the item was sent via regular post

my question is,

if australia post loses an item and the person only opted for it to be sent regular post, am i expected to refund the item because they havent got it, even though its no ones fault other than australia post?

Yes-if they open a Paypal dispute & you are not able to provide a tracking number, the buyer will be refunded in full.

I presume the buyer has allowed enough time to arrive & has also checked with local post office?

I'd be asking the addressee to check with their local PO or delivery depot in case it is sitting at either and a proper delivery attempt hasn't been made yet (or a card not left??). Has enough time lapsed for the package to reach the destination (being realistic there can be delays).

If indeed it seems the parcel has disappeared I would be lodging an enquiry with Australia Post (used to be called PM26 forms) and if you have proof of posting etc they may offer a discretionary refund which will take the sting out of the loss.

they should have well and truly received the item by now, i have no receipt or anything for the item as it was dropped off at a post box, postage was very little so i put stamps on and i wouldnt worry about appeals and stuff like that, as it was not a lot of money, i was more just wondering about the policy of how they work on ebay with this situation, for a few dollars im not going to lose sleep over it.

but i think i got my answer from one poster saying if you had the receipt from when it was posted then you'd be protected.

Providing the receipt had a postcode specific to the receivers address in PayPal, not just a receipt of AN item being posted on that day. Needs to be confirmable by PayPal within the system.

I would say to the buyer , give it a few more days , and if it doesnt turn up , i'll refund you.

No problems. If its packed well and marked clearly , it will get there via std post.

Sometimes can be fast or slower than normal .

In over 5,000 things ive posted via Aust post world wide , Ive never lost one. I know its a favourite pastime to blame the post , but it does work.

About 6 years ago , I posted a book to a guy in Alaska , it didnt arrive after a month , so I refunded him , 1 month later it arrived on my doorstep returned to me, uncollected. I contacted him and sent it back to him FOC. He was that happy that it finally arrived he paid me via PayPal anyway.
