Hi I have had a few customers do this not that I asked them to but they obviously didn't want to pay postage back so they just relabeled the pre paid satchel and I also had a customer give me the right address but the post person couldn't find it so it got returned to me. Australia post said I had to pay return postage and I said well it's not my fault if the postal person doesn't deliver it as she had received other mail to the address given before. So I just relabeled it put the building name on it and put in red mail box. She received it and no one got charged more postage.

Those little notes to seller are notoriously easy to miss, and really need to be more prominent.

Surely if you take it back to PO and explain ,with only the street number changed ,they would just pop it back in the system.

Failing that,by your own admission that you did not read it properly, better pay up and get on its way, and don't forget to explain whats happening to the buyer.

Yep,I thought of that option after I left my last post,if the item will fit ,just readdress and pop into a street box.

Another aside to addresses to keep an eye on,more than once in the past I have had buyers with a completely different address on the ebay order details page to the one on their Paypal a/c ,so I cross check as many as I can.

If a buyer hasn't updated their address they should pay for all postage costs. Australia Post don't allow for things to be posted when postage hasn't been paid for and a pre paid bag can't be posted more than once. When you receive a Paypal payment the buyer's Paypal registered address is the one you need to send the item to.

As the buyer gave you the wrong details then tell them you will repost when they pay the postage to send it back to them.

If they paid with paypal then you should post to the address on the payment received notice.

Then advise them to change their details on record with ebay and paypal if not done all ready.

If the buyer went to the trouble typing the "note to seller"with the new address, why not just change the registered address? Takes only a few seconds.

After saying that though, in this case, the onus is on the seller to pay for re-posting if you don't get away with re-addressing the prepaid satchel.

It is definately the buyer's responsibility. You should not lose money because your buyer has failed to update their address. Never use a pre paid satchel twice - you can be billed for postage and the buyer might not receive it.

Notes to sellers mean nothing in the event of a dispute.

If a buyer pays with paypal then you must send to the address on the notification in order to have Seller Protection.

If it is bank deposit then you can send to any address that the buyer requests as there is no seller protection or buyer protection anyway.

Did you look at the view item details before or after the buyer went through checkout? If it was before have you checked the address on the Paypal transaction page and is that the address you posted to. If it wasn't then it is your mistake and you should pay to resend.

If it was the Paypal address then it is the buyer's fault, you should just tell them that as they didn't change the address in checkout the address you sent to was automatically transferred to Paypal and that is the only address you can use if you want seller protection. Perhaps offer to resend if they pay half the cost of postage.

Personally if it was a reasonably high profit margin I would probably explain that I didn't have to but I was going to resend the parcel free of charge. Spending a few dollars on good customer service can be well worth it if they become a repeat buyer and they often do if you go above and beyond.

As stated, it doesn't matter what they do after the payment, that won't change the nominated address for THAT transaction. The only way to fix it is refund the buyer, resend the invoice and get them to nominate the correct postal address.

Yes that's correct and fair enough if you have no protection anyway but if it was a high priced item what would you do. ? And yes to have the statement changed to show the new address on the statement you would need to cancel and have it resent, but I'm just saying they can change it before you send the item on PP and then you can view that it has been changed to verify that it is the new address they want it sent to. At least its recorded and if they change it back after you send it and try to claim a INR eBay PP will have the record of it proving something isn't right.

You are travelling well so far. Reasoned argument (which I don't necessarily agree with, but reasoned nevertheless), only one minor slip on the abusive scale.

Keep this up and I can't see any reason why you can't last forever. The trick is to play the issue rather than the poster.

I agree its not a full proof way of doing it but like I said if it was a high priced item what else could you do other than cancel and have it resent and most would get annoyed at that and not repurchase once it was cancelled.

And buy making them change the address prior to posting at least you have a record of one the email asking you to send to a different address and two its on PP record that it was changed buy the buyer. That has to be better than just taking a gamble and sending to an address that is not on PP, That way they (PP) will know the address was changed and you were asked to send it to that address which is now recorded on there PP account.

That has to be safer.

This happened to me too, now I log in and print the invoice for every bank deposit payment from the ebay invoice that comes up in Selling Manager Pro.

Otherwise I use the PayPal details.

Unfortunately you have to wear the cost, AP won't take it back.

THey also won't repost a letter that has been returned to you by mistake when they send it to the return address. 😞

Now I always put the return address label on the front/top/left of the envelope instead of the back.
