how dumb is Australia post getting?

over the last several months have had several letters [2 internationl] delivered back to me. bewilders me that the postie thinks i live in Norway and America. can understand a computer reading my little return sticker by mistake but the postie?

when i took them back to my post office he hinted it has been happening a bit.

today had a message about a parcel from a ebayer he had sent to me which was delivered back to him.

anyone else been experiencing this?

I have actually had a couple of small packages go missing with the customer, and then a day or so later they are returned to me, I have not had this problem in over a year since i took over this ebay store, My local post office tells me i shouldnt be putting tracking labels on the small padded bag items i send, but these are ones that are going missing, can anyone else help me out on what to do once that happens, its basically untraceable.

Give em a break.

Its pretty hard to talk on the mobile while wedging it between your cheek and shoulder - while hands full and kicking a parcel down the street. (wish I recorded it for utube)

Geez.

Good Idea to put "TO:" and "FROM:" prefixes above addresses - help em out.

thanks for the reply Rory but its quite simple -

the big writing on the front of the letter is where its going

and

the really little sticker on the back has the return address on it

please do that up as a memo to all Australia post workers and we should see a big improvement in deliveries.

Home "sick" from work one day and to my surprise witnessed the following from my home office located at front of house;

Australia Post contractor van speeding up my street, then up my driveway and across my front lawn to my front verandah from which the Australia Post delivery contractor threw my parcel (shoe box size) from the front seat of his van hitting my front door. Quickly put van in reverse, back across my lawn, down driveway and speed down my street.

I wish I was quick enough to record/video it but I wasnt. Luckily for me the seller had carefully wrapped my parcel and contents survived its unorthodox delivery.

THis has happened to me a couple of times

What I have been told by someone in the Aust Post store is that it has to do with where you put the address stickers, as the scanning machines pick up where the stickers are - basically if it is in the middle of the item, it picks that sticker up as being the 'to' address. So if your 'from' sticker is also in the middle of the back of the item, it may pick that up as the 'to sticker' as well.

What I do now is put the 'to' sticker in the middle of the item and the 'from' sticker doen the bottom somewhere !

that may be the case but the dumb part comes in when the postie delivers back to me a letter with international post stamps and airmail sticker and writing on the front. [why deliver then to the little sticker address on the back]

same with a parcel with giant writing on it.

The "excuses" and "scenarios" other posters make for APs inability to deliver mail always gives me a laugh .... thank you

That sorting scenario is hysterical..... if mis-sorted in such a way, why is it not then picked up at the delivery point, or are posties and couriers programmed in a way that they are unable to read and problem solve the TO and FROM information on a letter or parcel??? Bahahahahaha

Maybe they're just obligated to do what they're told - a lot of workers in Oz are, despite the action being futile and/or possibly creating further issues. AP are seemingly riddled with pointless, beaurocratic procedure these days, so it wouldn't surprise me if they're issued with the instruction to deliver, putting the burden of responsibility / action back on to someone else...

here is another one for you -

received back the empty packet from a used dvd i posted. it was inside a plastic envelope from aussie post saying nothing inside, contents not there blah, blah. okay so it got caught on the sorting machine and ripped open and dvd fell out. [i seal it with tape as well which looks like it was sliced open] but could be a machine tear.

so i ring the phone number thinking this will be easy, they will go to the lost item box at the sorting center, find the title and every ones happy.

of course not.....................

the phone number is the general number and they wont give me the mail center phone number. i have to go to the post office and fill out a form.................... which i then find cant be accepted at the post office.............................. it has to go to the corperate office in the middle of town. the parking [if i can find one] costs alone i could probably buy a new one.

so perhaps the title of this thread should have been -

who is dumber Australia post management or the tax payers who pay them?

Exactly DG ..... for goodness sake don't ever actually check the address for To or From .... just put it into (or partially put into) someones - anyones - letter box - or throw near front door - or chuck over the fence and FGS ignore those do not safe stickers and signature required services .... . everyday, every single day on multiple occassions (evidence-check out their facebook page for examples) ... its just toooooo many times to be defensible.

I did actually report the incident at the time through the correct channels, but the feedback that I received (which I had to follow up on) was one of denial by the Aust Post contractor.
