Retracting Listed Item for Sale

I have listed an item and there are people watching but no bids yet. I have since talked to a friend who wants to purchase it which I am happy to do. Is it bad manners to remove it from my listing and could this damage my (very good) reputation? I don't want my friend to have to bid if I can help it.

It's not bad manners at all. Just end the listing choosing the reason "The item is no longer available". You are not supposed to have friends bid on your items if they want them.
