Non paying bidders

I would like to know why a buyer who has 337 feedback of which over 300 are negative is still allowed to bid,shouldn't they have been banned long ago.

A buyer only cannot have any negative feedback ratings, so presumably the sellers have left false positives rather than going through disputes and giving the 'buyer' strikes.

Simple.

Set your blocks for those who have 2 or more strikes in 12 months. If they bid and don't pay for your items, go through the procedures to get your FVF back and give them a strike, then add them to your blocked buyer list.

Yes their account should have suspended from buying long time ago.

Just another example that the current strike system does not work and buyer behaviour such as this is not dealt with appropriately by ebay, who place onus on sellers to do their dirty work.

Why do you presume that none of the 300 have not gone through the NPB process????

If your presumption is correct that 300 did not go through the correct process

....then how many sellers did go through the correct process and handed out strikes 0? 300? 600??? 900??? 1200??

remembering that those that did the correct thing are anonymous and cannot be seen on the buyers "feedback"

.....so how many strikes would the errant buyer have?? 0 300 600 900 or 1200... remembering that the answer to my question will give an indication as to how many sellers actually have faith in and use the system

....... I guess 1200 correctly process NPB strikes.... how about you??

Why do you advise sellers to manually add NPB to the blocked bidders list if the automated blocks worked as well as some

people tout there would be no need....simple...?????

So I presume reported to ebay means a NPB was correctly processed.

I presume that if ebay had to help cancel the transaction that a NPB dispute was p[rocessed.

I presume that a seller that had enough nouse to use the words non paying bidder also processed a NPB dispute

I presume that "had to open a case' also measn that the same seller "had to close it too

I just had a thought about manually adding people to the BBL - I wonder if it is so once the strikes expire and those automatic blocks are no longer relevant the person is still blocked, sort of like a set-and-forget type thing.

The OPs post clearly demonstrates the non-paying strike system does not work.

If there is a considerable proportion of the hundreds of thousands of sellers that don't open and close non payment cases to ensure strikes are given to a non payer then the system is contingent on a premise that is not only unsound in terms of being an effective deterrent to non-payment, but extremely unfair to those sellers that do follow the procedure.

I have yet to see in the past five years any sign that ebay is proactive in educating new sellers and/or promoting the non-payment process.

I don't think the problem is in the non-payment strike system, the problem lies in the blocking system. Clearly there are many sellers who do not have the blocks in place to prevent repeat non-payers from bidding or hitting the Buy-Now button.

eBay should have the blocking of buyers with more than 1 strike in the last 6 months as the default setting on listings, with sellers having to opt-out of having the block in place. Then, habitual non-payers would not rack up many false negatives as they would be prevented from bidding or hitting the Buy-Now button on so many more listings. AND, sellers that opt-out of the block would have nothing to complain about as they would be choosing to make their listings available to proven non-payers.

I have taught in schools and I can tell you one thing for sure. You need to have consequences for wrong doing.

The minute anyone sniffs the fact they can 'get away' with something, just watch that behaviour escalate.

A buyer who bids and doesn't pay and collects more than one strike should automatically be barred from any bidding at all for a set time. Maybe 1-3 months.

Sellers should still have the option to prevent them from bidding after that as well, if they wish.

There should be a clear consequence for non paying bidders and I am not convinced there is at present, by what I am reading. A false positive feedback is not, in my opinion, a consequence these people would care about.

in some cases, it is as if they collect them like trophies. Blocks as a default when a listing is created would put a stop to that.

It would certainly be a step in the right direction.

But in addition, when non-paying buyers are reported and trust and safety can clearly see non-payment comments being left by sellers on mass my expectation is that their buying actvities should be investigated or suspended, no excuse not to - given the mission to create a safe trading place for all.

For the significant dollars I pay each month I expect to be proactively protected from these low life, money and time-wasters. There are just too many of them and they are growing in numbers.

Last month I had hundreds and hundreds of dollars stock unpaid for. I am tierd of it, and I am also tierd of low price stock & small turnover sellers sticking their hands up and saying it is not a problem for them, put your blocks in place, yadayadayada ..... of course it is not,a problem for those sellers, they don't sell enough items in particular markets at high prices and sufficient volume to be affected by it - well I do and I am sick to the back teeth of going through the unpaid process, over and over again... without any developments in dealing with these pests.

Positive negatives do not stop non paying bidders....just like negative feedback won't

but they highlight that ebays NPB system does not work and also that ebay could not give a rat's about that fact and they would prefer to hide the huge festering lump under the carpet where they think nobody can see.

ie If those sellers did not leave negative positives and highlight the breakdown in the feedback system then this thread

would not exist...............

It has reached epidemic proportions in the vehicle section especially using the auction style format

..... search for 'no tyre kickers' or "relisted due to non paying bidder" in the body of the motors verhicle auction listings

copy and paste below of what appears to be the regular thing that many sellers include in their 'motors" listing search

(at a non refundable 22.95 a pop for an auction listing with a reserve...... ebay makes a tidy little profit at the sellers expense

whether the item sells or not)

NPB Feedback left on an account IMO trigger most regular sellers (after a little investigation) upon discovery to open and

....which means more participation by sellers in the NPB strike system and therefore creates a more complete

screening process.....

already filled with the generic ebay comment)
