Restricted Account: Can't Sell

Been on-and-off on ebay since 2004.

Registered in another country back then and did 1 transaction just a few years back.

Moved to AUS this year and changed some info (address, contact).

I decided to increase my visibility here so I bought some things that were cheaper online than in stores. Just being practical.

Now I have some things that I need to dispose of. But ebay won't let me sell it (it's a digital camera).

I've spoken to at least 2 reps who said they'd raise the matter to the proper department (the risk dept, I think). That was since mid-Sept.

I did get an email a week back asking me to email some copies of docs to verify my identity, or as an option, to change back my address to the previous country.

I asked for clarification on the docs requested so I don't do things 2x over. But no reply to that yet.

Now it's October and I've called them again and still no definite reply.

Any suggestions? Direct phone numbers?

To get the correct phone number click on Customer Support on the menu top right of screen then under the Contact eBay tab select the relevant reason. You will have options to either call eBay, have someone call you, or email.

Thanks. did that already as you mentioned.

that was 3 weeks ago.

I went through the 3 steps - i called. i asked them to call (nothing came) and I sent email - also nothing.

Have you registered as a seller? Have you upgraded your paypal account to a Premium account in order to accept payments?

I am afraid the way you did things would raise alarm bells, that is the typical behaviour associated with a hi-jacked account.

The scammer targets an account that hasn't been used to sell for a long time, they change region etc then start to list items at odds with past selling history.

I have no idea why you did not just provide the proof of identity they asked for as that would probably have sorted things out reasonably quickly, you querying anything about that probably had them just marking the account as not worth the risk.

I did not provide proof of identity yet because I was not sure that the ones requesting via email were the legitimate parties.

Besides, I just moved. Cant a person continue doing things after some time off?

I wouldnt mind if my account is deleted or disabled so as long as they tell me straight up.

Yes, there is no reason that you should not be able to continue using your account. PJ was just trying to tell you that you have not gone about this in the correct way.

You do realise that if you continue with the attitude of not minding if your account is closed down you may not be able to open another one. I advise you to try and sort it out. Ring ebay and/or paypal if in doubt about the legitimacy of the requests for proof of identity.

I understand where P_J is coming from and I do appreciate all your comments and suggestions.

Its just frustrating at times that no clear resolution is available after a long time.

They are asking for docs that are not yet available to me. I can provide my passport. But I do not have a local driver's license yet. All my correspondence so far are with banks and the government as I am establishing myself here in AUS now.

I don't see why you should have a problem opening an au bank account, I opened one within 24 hours of arrivng in in Aus and i was only there on a short visit tourist visa back in 2001. I also had no problem opening an Au Paypal account as I had changed the address on one of my UK bank accounts to the aus address so the credit and debit cards easily verified my address. I didn't have an Au driving license at the time and I only had a UK passport back then and experienced no problems whatsoever however my buying and selling history did not change and neither was there a break of more than a couple of weeks in my selling.

I do have an AU bank account. However the ebay team is asking for utility bills and bank statements and I dont have those yet

I asked them if the bank letter confirmation of my account would do as it has my addy also. But I havw not received a reply yet.

You can usually request a bank statment (sometimes for a fee). Some banks will mail one out to you, others will print one out at a branch for you (they're the ones that can cost $'s).

Have they provided the address or fax number to use for submitting the documents, and/or detailed any other info needed to identify your documents / eBay account? I would be tempted to submit the documents I do have (along with a bank statement if my bank was compliant) and see how they respond to that.

OK, this is going to sound a bit harsh, but I am 100% for a safe trading place, and given you are trying to sell on what has been an essentially been an inactive account and you admit that you do not have relatively basic documentation or equivalent that may give an indication to ebay of your residency, I think that it is sensible that ebay have prevented you from selling at this time.

Then ring ebay/paypal and explain what you do have.

I don't have a passport or drivers license but I do have utility bills, Council Rates notices and bank statements and I manage OK.

I have been aware of scam emails requesting for info from way back.

We all dont want ro get burned so we want to ensure everything is in order before providing info.

I buy small things now because I need them. Small AU plugs at $1 here in ebay than $8 in the store.

If I can receive validation that their link provided in an email is tge proper place to send my docs then I will gladly have my papers validated as a genuine honest seller.
