Do you think Ebay should be a more active and more ethically conscientious with sellers

Ebays life blood is their sellers. They have continued to put up their fees and they are almost 10% of the sale price. Yes they are a buisness and they deserve right to make money. I beleive they are a little too greedy and are limiting the profitablity of the sellers. I beleive that if they make their fees 1/2 the cost then they will get more than double the amount of business. I would list at least twice as much as i do. How do you think Woolies and coles became mega rich? Not buy gouging the few, but by billions of small amounts. I really think ebay is a good system for sellers and buyers alike but come on Ebay, how about making a reasonable amount of money, and let us all do the same?

Ebays fees are based on almost 10% of the amount a seller sells their item for and Woolies,Coles and the Aust Gov. charge a 10% GST on their goods and services so it's only fair that ebay do it also isn't it? Is there another competitor out there that can maybe compete along side ebay thus making the fees lower? Everyone has a choice and if your not happy with it then don't particapate it's as simple as that.

Farmers get next to zilch that's why Woolies and the rest purchase from overseas so they can pay them zilch and make an even bi$$er profit.

658 milion last 1/4 and sitting pretty with 11.7B in the bank. Its probably a little under target for them i'd say. Capitalists took the word reasonable out of their dictionary so its a futile debate, really i know.

Yes we all have choices, i'm not unhappy with ebay, but i could be a lot happier.
ebay created their own competitor - Gumtree. Smart business.

I have no idea how much you sell but when I start selling again in November (I only sell for half the year) I anticipate my fees being a lot less than they were the same time last year if I list and sell the same amount of items.

Absolutely mind boggling that some of you think ebay are fair to us sellers.

Fees are way too high,Hardly any traffic,unfair feedback system and the list goes on and on.........

Please be realistic about this,Ebay DO NOT LOOK AFTER US<There customer service is the poorest i have seen anywhere.

What happens when you contact them ? They give you you some rubbish answer and then .They ignore you.

Its simple for them,All about money,Not us.

I don't think ebay is fair at all to Australian sellers compared to the US. But I suppose that is due to the lack of a decent competitor.

I don't understand the mentality of not providing at least some performance based rewards for good Aussie ebay sellers like the US get.

umm, they're a business.

Most people go into business to make money. That is the key objective of operating a business.

eBay are not our employers, they have no duty to "look after us" in the sense you suggest.

Similarly, we are not contractually bound employees, so we can leave if we don't like the way they do business.

These are the conditions under which eBay are prepared to operate their business. It's as simple as that.

and whilst persistence is a good thing,you have to know when to stop the bleeding and sometimes that means to amputate.

As I said above, clearly the opportunity cost in this case is favourable to you or you wouldn't be doing what you're doing (I hope).

because until such time that someone is able to provide competition, they don't need to.

This is their business model and this is how they must deem the best way to maximize their profits for what they are prepared to provide.

It's not a tupperware party and eBay are not our employees, why do they need to provide performance rewards when people are already using their platform in the manner that they desire?

eBay are a business - not a community service or government welfare department.

And they do indeed have a duty of care to me and every other store owner who pays by the month for an ebay store.

Ebay opperate under there own conditions which they manipulate to there own advantage. as simple as that

And if the advantage i get is to buy a couple packets of toilet rolls every week,Then i guess that is fantastic.

Sorry Crikey I don't find that your post clarifies anything about the things that I don't understand about ebays approach in Australia.

Customer loyalty has firm place somewhere in most business models - that is unless there is little to no competition like ebay australia and the other entity that springs to mind is Australia Post.

I wasn't here last year (was the year before that though) so now you're competing with at least one other seller for the consumer's dollar. hey now have additional choices as to where to spend their money.

Poorer Customer service, I agree that it is poor in some cases, but this is also subjective.

New stupid rules that they bring in, They may apper stupid to you, but to them they undoubtedly make sense (I hope) and they are the rules under which they are prepared to run THEIR business.

Ebay opperate under there own conditions which they manipulate to there own advantage. It's their business! As long as they comply with the law, they can operate it any way they choose to!

But trust me on this, complaining about how eBay chooses to operate their business aint gonna do it. Be proactive. if it's not worth it to you, then don't do it. That's how simple this is/

and yes, customer loyalty is no doubt at the forefront of every business' mind, but the question is, what sort of customer does eBay aspire to attract?

we may think we are the perfect customer and that ebay is lucky to have us and should have huge celebrations that they are lucky enough to have us, but it appears that we are not the type of customer that eBay aspires to placate in their current business model.
