What are your experiences with this method of selling?

I am considering using this method to sell things I have re-listed a number of times with no sales success.

I accept there may be a few things that do not return a profit - however if the overall effect is a reasonable return on sales - the losses will be worth it.

What are your opinions on this?

As a buyer are you attracted to these type of sales pitches or not?

As a seller have you had reasonable success using this method?

As a buyer - if it's 99 cents or $5, makes no difference to me.

I see it as a false gimmick and don't expect to win at that price.

And if anything, I think it may attract too many bidders, so I don't bother.

If your items are usually 99 cents or $1.00, that's different.

As a seller, I list a price I think is fair and if I get one bid, it's happily sold.

If you are happy to sell some for 99 cents to get more traffic to your other items, that may work if you are selling to a target market that repeat buys or need multiples immediately.

There is no reserve on anything except motor vehicles, real estate etc.

In my experience starting few things at 99c does increase traffic; so if you have some things you want to get rid of because you are sick of re-listing them, then go for it.

Considering that you obviously think that there is such a thing as reserve, I suggest that you do bit more reading how eBay works. Try the Site Map; link on the bottom of every page. 🙂

If a seller has a lot of 99c auctions I avoid them. If the seller thinks that is all the items are worth then they must be in pretty poor condition.

It can be useful if you are listing free and you have one 99c start just to get people looking but you must be prepared for it to sell at 99c.

I list n item once and if it doesn't sell I either relist on my store id as a BIN or I leave it a while and list it with a higher start price and more often than not it sells.

I do it every now and again, mostly to help generate traffic to my other products. It's not something we do long-term.

I only use 99c auctions as an advertising tool, of course you have to be prepared to sell whatever it is you are listing for that price.

It does (in my case) increase traffic to my other listings - so for me it is worth while. And helps offload old stock.

If the OP feels they need to say no reserve, then they obviously think that there is the option to have reserve 🙂

Hello there - thanks for all your replies...

I've taken all of your advice on board and think it may be worth throwing a few things up in order to generate a bit of traffic.

Interesting to see re-listing at a HIGHER price works on some items as well - had never considered this as an angle.
