Gee I'm sick of going to someone's item and seeing them whinge about Paypal fees. Ebay should not allow this.If you don't like Ebay and the benefits you get from Paypal then go somewhere else.

A listing is no place for it.....I pay paypal and ebay a huge amount in fees every month. I think it is a little expensive.

If Ebay brought their fees down to the same level as PayPal then this would be a happier place to sell.

if a person sold an item for $100 and buyer paid via paypal the seller gets $96.80..a $50 transaction and seller gets $48.25..yer sure paypal charge a fee but its very small in my books and payment shows up within minutes..

So you think everyone who prefers Paypal to Paymate or having a merchant account to accept credit cards direct must work for Paypal?

If Paypal was so bad why would many of us offer it on other sites where there is no obligation to offer a safe payment method?

Why would many people, as I do, use it for personal money transactions like transferring funds from a bank in one country to another?

Why would we be more than happy to pay the small fee Paypal charges to make the post sale process so much eassier than when people pay by bank deposit?

Why would we wish to exclude all those buyers who don't have the ready cash but can pay using a credit card through Paypal.

Just so you know the Paypal fee in Aus is actually lower than that charged on the UK site but guess what? I still have, and use, a Paypal account there too!

Then why are they charging me 3.9% + 40c for a local cash transaction and let me tell you I have sent them many emails and spent over 2 hours on the phone to their useless phone centre asking for an answer and still awaitinng a reply.

It is 3.9% plus 30 cents if you are accepting international transactions if your PayPal is registered in USA

If the seller is operating as a business, their buyers are paying the fees...it's just not explicit.

I get that casual sellers who sell an item, particularly at auction, can look at the final price achieved and think about how much more they'd get in their pocket if PayPal wasn't involved (if/when their buyers pay that way), but that neglects to take into some (admittedly unquantifiable) variables, such as whether the price would have gone that high if it was offered to a smaller market and/or where the buyer couldn't access a safe payment method.

But ePay supersede this … ePay and PayPal operate above common law

There are reasons why people choose to use eBay over any of the other methods for selling items that may be available to them.

There are reasons why people choose to buy on ebay over any of the other shopping venues available to them.

In general, most buyers and sellers are aware of the involvement of eBay, and to a certain extent, PayPal in the transactions they conduct, and what it means to them personally. Therefore these choices, and the impressions that influence them, are very real (but as I said, unquantifiable), variables, not red herrings, which is a device specifically employed to distract from reality/truth. A real red herring is the way PayPal suggest a buyer will get their money back if they don't receive an item. Someone under that impression may bid more confidently and - as a consequence - higher, but their understanding and their behaviour because of it isn't the red herring.

Even if a person's understaning of eBay / PayPal is limited or misguided, what they do understand, or think, will influence their choices.

PayPal isn't mandatory.

It also provides seller protection, which while not infallible insurance, can prevent loss from fraudulent chargebacks.

....and, as a seller making a profit on eBay, with all applicable fees accounted for when I decide upon my prices, I'm not paying for PayPal fees. There is no one-size-fits-all members/situations assessment of this issue.

And this loss is quantifiable? Presumably eBay aren't making as much money as they used to. Or the BUYER numbers are falling - as that, ultimately, is the source of the funds.
