Yes but there are all sorts of rules and restrictions, plus you need a dangerous goods license

here's an extract from a post made here last year by one of the Australia Post representatives

''To set the record straight, perfume is considered a "Dangerous Good" (see http://auspo.st/gkrogS) and therefore will not be accepted for carriage through domestic or international post. If you have been advised otherwise by staff at your local Post Office, please let me know their details and I will ensure they are re-trained with the correct information.

If you have sent perfume in the mail you will not be covered for loss or damage regardless of the service it was sent through as it is a prohibited item as advertised in the Dangerous Goods Guide (linked above).

As others have mentioned it is possible to send perfume and other dangerous goods provided you have a Dangerous Goods Licence with us [Aust Post], which requires you to undergo special training as well as complete specific paperwork for each parcel. "

It also says,

"Dangerous goods exemptions

We can deliver some dangerous items, if they meet certain conditions and are packed in a specific way.

Our dangerous goods exemptions policy does permit very small quantities of some dangerous goods (known as "exempted" dangerous goods) when carried on a contract basis and by road transport only.

There are specific requirements for how these goods are packaged and who they are delivered to.

Please read clause 62 through 65 of the Australia Post Terms & Conditions for more information."

I sold a bottle of perfume on Ebay last year (unwanted Xmas gift) took it to the counter at Australia Post and they simply put a "Carriage by Road Only" sticker on it, charged me (a bit more than usual, from memory) for postage and off it went. No drama.

I guess you were lucky that your PO either did not understand the rules or chose to break them.

I would not be telling everybody that you/your PO broke the law.

Your opinion of what I have done, purely under the guidance and authorisation of Australia Post, is of no worth to anybody.

So - don't concern yourself with it, and mind your own business.

You are posting on a public forum here so what you post is as much my business as anyone else's who post here.

And it is not just my opinion of what you/your PO has done. The law has been broken and I suggested you don't draw attention to it. How is that of no worth to anyone?

most perfumes are flamable..road trans only is what i found out..classed as "dangerous goods"

We applied as a business for a dangerous goods excepmtion for some of our glues and aerosols, absolutely everything we sent to them was classed as dangerous and we were not able to send them using Australia Post. A few years back, we had to stop sending out bon bon (cracker) snaps as they are considered dangerous and Australia Post will not carry them under any circumstances. I still see heaps of people selling them - they obviously flout the regulations or are ignorant of the facts.

A bit of both I suspect....they find out the facts but if they do not suit their purpose they ignore them and hope they do not get caught.

Try googling couriers that specifically pack n send perfumes.

Try ringing some international couriers....DHL or FedEx for example.

They would have a blanket Dangerous Goods Licence and may be able to help you. However, it may well cost you an arm and a leg and make it uneconomical to send it.

Have you thought of buying the perfume from a business in the country you wish to send to? Then it would just be a local delivery.

Australia Post DO send perfume within Australia. It is clear if you read their blogs, etc. they do it for Adore Beauty and many of the large retailers, but it must go by Standard Parcel Post, by road, not air.
I have gone around and around, even been in to my local post office, but I cannot find anywhere HOW to apply for a dangerous goods license. Can someone please tell us exactly what process to follow to apply for these exceptions? I don’t mind how complicated/hoop jumping/expensive it is. I just want to know. Thank you.

Here in NSW it can be done where you renew your driver's licence.

You have to undertake a training course and it can cost hundreds of $$.....it has to be renewed periodically.

My OH has one....it is mandatory while working for Australia Post/AaE/StarTrack and the testing was arranged at the base.

No need for smart answers. I read all of the comments, and spent hours searching on google. I’m not an idiot.
I discovered that companies that send 1000 parcels per year or more can have a contract with Aust Post - eParcel to send perfume through the mail by road only. The training is not for physically transporting the dangerous goods (driver training), it is about how to package perfume correctly so that it doesn’t leak, etc. If anyone is interested, you need to register a business account with Australia Post and get in touch with their eParcel team. You will be assigned with an account manager to guide you through the process.
I hope this information helps others.

To hold a Dangerous Goods Licence you do have to pass a test to prove that you know the rules.

And the answers already posted include that you can send through other entities who do hold a DGL.
