Hello every one

This item number [edited] which is a generator was ended early on eBay. I bought it after ending from [edited] for $810. I transfered the money to his account through net banking. I never received the generator and I lost my $810. Mind you I am a pensioner and receive merely $465 per fornight :). Never to do business outside eBay. Be aware of this frudlant person.

The correct warning is never bank transfer money to a complete stranger. On or off eBay wouldn't have made any difference.

You can try the police online fraud site.

you made the big mistake of paying by internet banking and you could have picked up the generator and paid cash, if you didnt like the item you could have walked away and lost nothing,your at fault

you are not allowed to name and shame members so be best to edit the sellers name

request sellers contact details and try and contact him.

on listing it states local pick up only seller maybe waiting on you to pick up.

as others stated never use bank transfer to pay for items pay pal or pay mate is the only service that gives buyers protection.

if no joy contacting seller maybe contact your bank explain details and maybe they can do a reversal on transfer

Bank transfers are a safe way to pay honest sellers. Buyers need to work out if a low feedback score seller is the same as a high feedback score seller with 100% feedback.

I have three stores and advise all buyers that bank transfer is my preferred payment method but Paypal is happily accepted of course.

This selling account has paid $1614 in paypal fees since last July alone. A cost that is not neccessary.

so you suggest people should pay hundreds of dollars to people they don't know though bank transfer which don't offer buyer any protection ?. honest sellers accounts also get hacked by scamers. for the small fee pay pal charges is in my opinion is worth the protection for buyers & sellers. everyone has & will have an opinion on best payment preference mine is bank transfer for large amounts is a no no.

No Im saying transfering money to ebay sellers with a proven track record who use tracking is safe.

Ebay provide the feedback feature for buyers to share their experience with others. Thats what its there for.

How many people get paid their salary/wage/pension by bank transfer these days?

That has nothing to do with buying online. As a reflex I back button any seller who prefers bank deposit. I get payments by bank deposit, but I don't solicit payment that way. I don't know why people think they can trust me when they don't know anything about me. They can, because I'm honest, but that is not the issue.

Feedback doesn't have quite the same impact on a seller as free gifts in their bank account, nor does it compensate the buyer for their lack of money or goods. Regardless of the seller's track record.

I know of one instance (and I am sure there are many others) where a seller with a very good record decided to leave a site and never despatched ANY of the items bought in the last month or so. It is a site where a 'safe' ('safer' eBay now says) payment method is not required, so he scammed a bit of cream off the top from people who trusted his feedback and track record.

Of course it does. The posts have questioned the safety of money transfers. We all get/receive/use them in every facet of life in one form or another.

We can both quote instances of bad buyers and sellers as its on these discussion boards every day.

No of course it doesn't. Your analogy has nothing to do with the issue.

An employee, etc has a lien on the money. And can prove it is owing to them. A private seller who has no registration with any government authority has to be chased.

If you are registered as a business, sell at BIN, have a B&M, yes, a bank transfer to you is as safe as Paypal. Although in that case I would expect you to have a merchant credit card facility (which could cost more than Paypal, depending on volume) and that I could pay with my credit card.

Either way I, as the buyer, would have avenues to pursue remedies if things go awry. Not just the seller's assurances of their honesty. Every seller wants buyers to think they are honest.
