Hi.

I'm an eBay oldie - who left and is returning.

Everything has probably changed.

I see one spot it said the 1st 50 items are free to list - is this correct?

I saw somewhere that it said up to $250.00 is 9% FVFs - with the postage included - is this correct?

I then discovered I was in CANADA - so- am wondering if that was for Canada or all of eBay ( and have no idea how I got to canada either - )

I've been elsewhere since 2006 - some advice on starting prices - listings fees etc - any advice as to how to get the listed fast

is opening a shop worth it - I did have a shop here ( and there) last time

As I haven't been here to sell ( except 2 items ) in 8 years - I think things have changed and I was hoping for advise regarding that.

Australia is 40 free listings per calendar month for non-store owners, with 9.9% FVF on sale price, so not on postage, with a $250 cap. The listing can be any format (auction or BIN), and in almost any category (some exclusions apply, eg motors, classifieds). Insertion fees after the free allocation is used is $1.50 for a listing up to $100 (including multiple quantity where the combined value of available items =$100 or less), above that is $3.50.

A shop can be better value depending on the kind of items you sell, what format is best for them (BIN vs auction) and how many items you have. Each store package has a number of free listings included with the package, but they need to be either fixed price, or if an auction, in the collectible category in order to qualify as a free listing. Basic store for $20 p/m includes 80 free, featured for $50 p/m includes 200, and anchored for $500 p/m is unlimited. Fixed price listing insertion fees once the free allocation is used is 50c with a basic, 20c with a featured, or 5c for media regardless of store level. Auction insertion fees are the same as above, except if in the collectible category, in which case they're $1.

The FVF varies for store items depending on the category - tech gadgets over $200 attract the lowest FVF, at around 5%, media (books, CDs, DVDs, video games etc), fashion (jewellery, clothing, accessories) and some other categories start at 9.5%, while others start at 7%, and it goes down by 1% for each store level (that is, if something is 9.5% with a baisc store, it's 8.5% with a featured, and 7.5% with an anchored).

If you enter some average (or projected) stats into eBay's fee illustrator, it can give you a basic overview as to which option will provide the best value, based on the financial aspect alone, as it can't take into account variable things like whether auctions will perform better.

There have been issues with searches not working recently. My sales are about the same as this time last year on a sellthrough basis, but the last 2 weeks have been patchy - a few on the weekend, then nothing through the week, where normally I would expect to sell something every day, pretty much.

I think eBay are blaming the issues on upgrades done to the 3 major browsers recently, not their inability to stop fiddling with things, so it might be an idea just to use your 40 free until that is sorted before thinking about a store.

did I read the fee thing correctly.

If you have 40 with fixed price - there's no fee to list them

but if you have 40 auctions it's $60 to list that 40 ?

I just tried the fee illustrator -

so- it is best to do Buy Now prices - no auctions ? !

Free listing (insertion fee) entitlement

All sellers on eBay can take advantage of a set number of free listings available every month.

The free listing entitlement is available in most categories, and for many listing formats. Non-Store Package subscribers receive the first 40 Fixed Price or Auction listings free every month. Store Package Subscribers can take advantage of 80, 200 or unlimited free Fixed Price listings depending on the Package they choose.

I probably wouldn't open a store at the moment - if you read all the posts you will see selling is very bad at the moment.

pps: you might want to change some of your ebay about me notes - seller's can't leave negative feedback for buyers

If the buyer leaves them a Negative for the item being not As described, that seller automatically leaves a Neg. ( You leave me a Neg & I'll leave you a Neg ! ) Then everyone is leaving Postives for FEAR of Negatives ! WHAT GOOD IS THAT TYPE OF FEEDBACK ?

It's a little complicated at first as the fees are a bit all over the place and it kind of seems like "if this then that except when this other thing but ony if it's listed before 12am on a night that it's a full moon and there's an owl in a tree near you, but there aren't any clouds in the sky..."

Ok, so without a store, you have 40 free listings no matter what format you choose, so it can be an auction or a Buy It Now (Fixed Price).

It's only when you have a store that (most) auctions aren't included in the standard free listing allocation.

You marked a heap of posts as solutions. Doesn't close the thread. Only the mods can do that.

I've never taken any notice, but some of the red ones are 'hot' topics, whilst others are 'hot' topics the I (or you in one) have replied to. I have no idea of what defines hot. Probably the number of posts over an arbitrary period of time.

I'm set for newest first, automatically go to last read. Or something like that. If you go into 'My Settings', up the top when you're on the boards you get about a thousand options.
