HI I want to list an item.but EBAY is insisting I use paypal or another approved method BUT I want cash on delivery. what can I do. AFRICACORPS

You have to offer one safe payment method to list.

That can be Paypal, Paymate or your own merchant credit card facility.

And

Do you mean cash on pick up? Cash on delivery (C.O.D.) is a different, and expensive, service.

You can offer cash on pick up alongside Paypal. Most buyers when picking up an item prefer to pay after inspecting it, in cash, on the day anyway.

Choose a different safe payment method.

It is a condition of listing on eBay that you accept at least one of the approved "safe payment methods".

If you do not want to use PayPal, you can choose between PayMate or Merchant Credit Card.

You can offer other options as well as one or all of the above, but you cannot avoid offering one of those.

It is not often that we hear of people preferring to use Cash on Delivery as a preferred method of payment, may I please ask why it is yours?

You're welcome, just be careful to list accordingly though as choosing cash on pick up seems to be difficult to set up in some formats, and is often listed incorrectly, so be sure to double check your listing oince it is completed if you are not sure.

There is only a risk with Paypal if the buyer funds the payment with a credit or Visa debit card and they do a chargeback. That is extremely unlikely especially for a cheapo item. You can cover yourself by asking for photo id with an address which you should scan onto a receipt which you and the buyer both sign copies of, it won't hurt to note their rego too. If they then try to do a chargeback for unauthorised use you know exactly where to send the letter demanding payment is made or you will go to the police.

I only list pick up items on Gumtree now. No Paypal involved, cash only, so no chargeback possible. Person comes & looks at item, likes it, pays me money, they get a receipt & drive off. Problem solved.

Unfortunately unless the item is a car or similar item that does not mandate the compulsory use of paypal, you have to offer paypal etc and the buyer is also quite within their rights to pay via this method then turn up to collect - as the safe methods are sanctioned by ebay, it counts as seller non performance if you refuse. It has happened to me a couple of times, I simply have them sign a document upon collection stating they have collected the item and take their drivers licence/ID info when they pick up.
