Local pick up not offered but buyer wants to pick up

Hi I have a buyer who has informed me they want to pick up item. No contact was made before buying item about this and it is not convenient for me aas I have to work. What do I do?

Well most of us have to work .. so no doubt this can be worked around - however you don't have to allow pick up if you don't want to. The buyer really can't "assume" that pick up is offered. You can if you want to be polite just send a short message, something like:

Thank you for contacting me regarding collection of your won item. I'm sorry I don't offer collection in person but will post the item off to you as soon as you have made payment. Thanks again and I hope you enjoy the new whatever it is when it arrives.

Just me personally, I'd ask him to pay by bank deposit, and leave the item out somewhere safely so he could come and collect it if that's what he wanted to do - then you wouldn't be inconvenienced - or get him to come to your work to pick up - but that's just me and you don't have to.

I really don't like the idea of local pickup. I would have advertised in my newspaper otherwise. Buyer did not let me know until after buying that they wanted to pick up. I was sent an email stating that they will pick up Monday and want my address. I replied that they should have asked this question before bidding. Am I wrong. I do not want to give out my address.

just do as a beautiful room suggested and say sorry, NO.

in a polite and professional manner. you do not have to give reasons why, just say it is not convenient and you never offered it.

No offense meant but never ever use this option as it lets them know they are coming to an empty house/flat,etc.

They can then use the excuse of not seeing the parcel whilst casing the place,(they only need to grab it and put it in a hiding place when they first arrive),X-(

Nannabear, if you don't want anyone coming to your house, you don't need to.

As said no need for any explanation, you simply don't offer pick up, so a message telling them that and you will post item as soon as payment is made will suffice.

It is your choice to NOT offer pick up and buyers should respect that and NOT ask after they won.

If the buyer leaves a neg over this then ask ebay to remove it and tell them the reason.

If they do not pay within 4 days open the dispute and if they still have not paid then you can close it 4 days later and this will stop them from being able to leave feedback at all.

You can absolutely refuse pick up if you wish but personally I have no problem with it, I have met people in shopping centres, outside POs and many other places including delivering things myself to hand over the goods and get the cash without any prospect of a missing parcel or time and/or money spent processing the payment.

I also don't have a problem with people coming to my home to collect but then I am at home most of the time anyway.

I offer pickup but nobody comes to my place. I drive for a living and can deliver just about anywhere in the city.

I'm with most - either tell them politely you don't offer pickup, arrange to meet at a neutral location, or, better, tell them to come to your work.

I used to allow pickups until I got a real weird dude come To my house. I would never do it again. Just say sorry pickup is not an option and tell them you will post as soon as payment oils made

Should any buyer, not just this one, want to, they can request your contact details from eBay and they will be emailed to them.

All up there is no way to hide such details and I am concerned that you think that you are anonymous if you sell on eBay.

Once you start selling and posting on the forums your ID will also come up in Google searches.

I use a PO Box - not sure how safe my details are but I've opted to have that on invoices and to show up for selling.

On the other hand, if I've spoken to somebody on the phone and they sound "normal" and sincere, I have allowed pickup on a couple of occasions.

I wouldnt allow pick up, if you unfortunately end up with a weirdo buyer, that for some reason isnt happy with the product then they have already been to your house, know where it is and what you look like. I dont think the majority of buyers are weirdo's but it only takes letting that one into your life and you could regret it for a long time.
