How do other sellers react to this statement from AP

Seen this post on the AP website from Auspost in a discussion.

Does Australia Post need to be profitable and why?

"Hi, we’re really looking forward to hearing your views on this question. It’s an important topic for Australia Post because it has a direct impact on the services we are able to offer you in future. Comments we’ve heard so far seem to be that profitability is important to you. We do however recognise that not everyone shares this view. So, we are opening up the debate. Please share your thoughts below."

It really made me laugh hence why I replied "lol". Was exactly what I expected from AP, to have a reason to side step pricing. Maybe I'm being over cynical. Would like to hear other sellers opinions.

Well, now they can say that they are being pro-active.

At least they can say that, doesn't mean they'll do anything about it.

It's a public service for pete's sake, why do they have to make such a huge profit, and pay

their CEO such an obscene salary.

CEO doesn't have an ounce of clever in him either. Any fool can load price rise after price rise in a monopoly. That is very short sighted. A clever CEO worth 4mil+ a year would look to the long term and set up the very industry that saved you to be competitive in the long term instead of seeing how far they can be pinched. For the most part Australia is already priced out. Luckily, overseas vendors can't get there **bleep** together.

I'm not quite sure I follow you. Would you be less indignant about his $ 4,8 million salary if he had donated 2 million to the Creationist Museum in Kentucky or spent it in the High Rollers Lounge at the casino??

Profitabllity is one thing. However many businesses make more profit by creating efficencies in they way they do business and improving processes. I see very little of that from AP other than perceived threats to reduce service levels. Profitablitiy obtained by twice yearly price rises fairly minimal forward thinking in business processes and a very comfortable B2C market monopoly will one day bite them in the bum when someone finally invests in creating a nationwide B2C distribution network to compete with them.

That was his 'Christmas bonus' that he donated, so in reality, it was his money to donate. Doesn't make it any more obscene though, regardless of who was the recipient. I guess better a museum than the High Rollers room.

alarm bells ring when Mr Farhours brother and sister in law run the museum. Another consideration is Mr Farhour has made use of its tax deductible status and Australia loses out on 1 million in tax dollars. There are some tough questions that he will never answer.

It is quite clear that you "do not follow", your indignant meter must be set to LOW. I expressed no indignation, I merely brought attention to a newspaper article that was relative to the topic. Perhaps you are overly sensitive.
