@englishrosegardens wrote:

There's a LOT of errors in what they told you! Nothing new there unfortunately, it's because they sooooo unreliable I hate asking CS, but really, that is just absurd. We get pinged for the slightest error - yet they get away with handing out misleading, incorrect advice/information !!

THEY like gtc because you pay each time they roll over - every 30 days. Read the fine print with all the extra freebies and you'll see it says GTC listings aren't free, except if the initial listing is done from a freebie. It says if it rolls over during a period of free listing it won't be free. Yep, I hear you, had a bad experience with GTC before the days of Free listings, when I was a newbie, so was staright onto him when he made that statement & he insisted - the first listing would come from the Free listings quota and after that it is FREE and will not (in his words) eat into the Free Listings. (I have re-listed an item GTC from my remaining Free Listings and we'll see what happens in 30 days - but I guess will be hard to tell if in 30 days I have Free Listings available). He also said it all changed back in March ???

I believe stores with Selling Manager Pro can set it up to relist things automatically, but that's not free either, so anyone with SMP needs to be careful of that. I can't remember the details but I think relisting automatically with SMP was just a different way of doing gtc. Pretty sure I mentioned that somewhere in an earlier, (or maybe different post) - something to do with the Automation thingy - which I can't seem to find much info about.

The only advantages to using gtc are that you get to keep the selling history, which probably puts it higher in Best Match (which I don't believe many use to search anyway) and that it saves time because you don't have to relist every month, and also that your items are always visible. I find relisting every month helps me to remember what I've actually got for sale.

Yep, like the idea of keeing the selling history for sure and definitely saving time ! I manually relist every month at the moment and tweek things as I go (you know, as they say, revise, change titles, anything to try and get you seen !). But in the end, I'd rather spend less time re-listing and worrying about new policies etc etc and more time creating new items and adding them. These days I seem to spend too much time on basic stuff and wold love to be able to streamline it a bit.

I'd forget all the other arguments and just point out that it says that non-business sellers are eligible to use auto relist, and that you aren't a business seller. Regardless of the criteria for being a business seller, you'd know if you were one. You can become a business seller without reaching any dollar limit, or I think you can, but once you change to being a business seller you can't change back again - so you'd KNOW if you're one. It'd show somewhere on your account if you were, and you'd probably be notified when it initially happened.

Now, here's the funny thing, and I feel STUPID !! Again !! Would never have given this a second thought. With the terminology of business versus non-business, have always had in my head Store versus non-Store, but then your comment triggered something stored somewhere at the back of this old brain. So I went and checked my account and oopsie, I am a Business Seller and would never have remembered had it not been for your comment - you'd know it you're one ! Went into my account details and sure enough, Registered as a Business Seller. Long story, so won't bore you with all the details, but found all my original notes and way back in the beginning, rang CS and as I was Buying and Selling on one account and had Registered Business name etc was advised that was the best way to go. Was also told, which I now find amazing, that you should not have multiplte ID's - it was frowned upon - they could tell etc etc !!

Oh, how time and experience can change so much. Makes it so hard to know what to believe.

In the beginning as a newbie, I would have thought eBays own Customer Support could not be wrong !!!!!!

Having discovered they often are, and that if you ask the same question several times you'll get several different answers and that if you email, you'll only get a 'Cut & Paste' response 99.9% of the time I decided to try and get answers here, and I respect and value everyone's opinions and input. But is hard when we are being told different things by eBay and I guess in man cases because of glitches in the system, not everyone's experiences are even the same. Specifically referring to the Auto Relist, obviously some get the option & some don't for no clear reason . . . . . . (At least now I guess it's clear why I don't get it, lol)

I don't have a store & only do auctions but i have noticed the same thing. Some things i listed, usually hot selling brands that should have had/usually do well & have a lot of views barely had a handful & didn't do as well as i would have liked.Other sellers with similar items/brands & start prices had lots of bids.

I have noticed this for a month & it seems to be hit & miss at times. Thanks for mentioning that,i had wondered if anyone else was having an issue with it.Some weeks it's all W.A buyers, who knows what goes on in the eBay vortex.

I've noticed with my auctions, some things will barely get a page view, yet other sellers who have the same thing will have lots of bids and their item sells for a ridiculously high price, while mine relists with 1 page view. I wonder if their bidders are regulars who 'follow' them, so get messages about their items. Maybe my start prices are too high? I learned early in the peace not to start at 99c because that's what everything was selling for and I was effectively paying someone to take my items off my hand.

Other times I will have auctions relist and relist and relist and barely get a page view, let alone a watcher or bidder, then whammo, there will be a bidding war and suddenly there is all this interest in those chronically relisted items.

As you said, who knows how the eBay vortex works!!

I'm glad this latest offer goes for over a week because I'm working this weekend which will leave time for nothing apart from sleeping and working.....unless I want to list things at 2, 3, 4, 5am (depending on what time I get home and even then, due to needing sleep, time then will be limited). I probably won't be able to use all the 150, but I'll hopefully find some more things to list.

I wondered about the start price too.I put mine up to $6 as i also learned about the .99c a couple of years ago.Anyhoo, when i got the less views thing i checked up on a seller who bought from me ages ago & sells similar brands. They were starting at $5,they got quite a few bad comms about their items (dunno if it's true, whatever) & their items had tons of bids going at very nice prices.Good for them,so i thought i would try it to see if i was just the start price.

So the last set of listings,i lowered the start to $5 & $5.50 as an experiment but it made no difference at all.

The last lot of free listings I listed one of mine with a 99c start price and it relised the 3 times and didn't sell. Each time it had 1 or 2 page views (probably from me), so I bumped the price back up.

Sometimes if something just keeps relisting over and over, I'll put the start price up and sometimes that has made a difference.

I think part of it comes down to who happens to be looking for what at any given time. Today everyone might be looking for what I've got, tomorrow they might be looking for what you've got.

Not everyone has items over $100 they want to list. A few months ago I think they had 10,000 free listings for store holders, but there hasn't really been much since. Not all store holders have a non store account whereby they can take advantage of the free listing auctions. If one group gets it, then the other should get it too.

Mmmm, it's getting a little hard to take now - quite obvious they don't want us little guys around anymore !

Funnily enough, I never ever sell anything anywhere near $100, but the day after the last promo was announced I finalised a big custom order, wahoo, it came to $105 so I got 1 Free Listing !! Gotta laugh.

Hubby has a separate ID we use for like junk, garage sale type stuff, not a store, so might take note of some other suggestions and list there as well.

Happy selling everyone 🙂

I've noticed they never run two at the same time though 😞 which is another reason why it's not looking good for stores when this non store one is for so long. Normally they give us like 3 or 4 days to list 10,000 items pffftt as if

But good on the non store sellers, good luck and make the most of it 🙂

I'm thinking seriously of using a non-store ID as well, I only have a basic store but it's only advantage for me personally is the 200 free BIN listings a month. When non store IDs are regularly getting 150 free auction or BIN listings it makes me think there's not much point continuing to pay for a store when I can get more listings just by having two non store IDs. The slight decrease to FVF isn't worth much to me, and the 40 freebies a month being auction only is irrelevant with all these freebies.

I wonder if ebay is planning to phase out their lowest tier stores? There seems little point to them right now.

I will continue to covet a store with some auctions included in the package, like the US get.

I will keep my existing store, but am going to give the non store ID I shot with this offer as it is a more realistic time frame for me to get 150 listings live.

Thanks for the 150 listing promo. I got the notice for one site the first one since May and the other site still nothing. So very hit and miss who gets them.
