I have no idea, Right now i'm just feeling VERY tender about it all....

I was thinking that we can get done over completely by buyers for things like putting in a buyer hasn't paid claim, then they get their backs up, pay, and they mark us low on the DSR, and we are stuffed....

Does anyone know if the Dear John letter (permanent selling restriction) is personal or only for that account?

For instance, if you have two or three accounts and one goes below standard, does that ruin all of them?

If it's only that account, I can see a strategy where you rotate different accounts as defects start to build up, so that they never get to below standard (then wait for some to drop off....)

I fully understand the hassle and loss of loyal customers in this method, shouldn't be required, may not work anyway, defective defect system etc etc,..... I would just like to know purely about this question

IMO Que Sera Sera. I can't make head nor tales out of this system and since I have never seen any evidence that it makes any difference to search rankings whatsoever, I am over it. For example, here is a snapshot of my curretn dashboard.

I shows 4 defects for low DSR Item not as described, 2 for Slow postage time, and 2 neg/neutral feedback.

The count has never changed since I returned to selling on Ebay mid-April. The dashboard has always shown those numbers, what changes is the percentage; as the number of transactions goes up, the % goes down, I get that bit. However, under the little green marker which shows me at the start of TRS standard, the total defects shows as 5 out of x total transactons.

So, assuming (silly I know, but you have to start somewhere) that the 2 slow postage are already represented in the 4 Item not described, and the same for the 2 neg/neutrals, where is the 5th defect?

And to complicate it further, when I drill down for a report, (and also hasn't changed since March) it shows only 3 defects, . It shows one open case for Item not received, although the main screen has none (and that's what I would expect as the one and only INR I have ever received was closed the very same day after the buyer received it in the post). It also shows 2 defects for neg/neutral feedback (one neutral and my one and only EVER negative).

I'm left wondering, discounting the non-defect for INR, where do I find the details for the 3 missing defects?

I'm also wondering, why my projected performance level for the next rating review shows as Above Standard, even though my percentages show as TRS. I know you require PS status to achieve TRS, but I passed the final requirement for PS at the end of August and that should mean that come the review on the 20th I will become a Bronze PS, so shouldn't the projected seller performance level be TRS?

See what I mean, if you worried about all this nonsense, you'd go spare in quick time, QUE SERA SERA!

buyers who are leaving these low ratings should be asked before they can mark them as low if they have contacted the seller to resolve this problem, if they say no, they should be directed to do so. That way us sellers could attempt to get this sorted....

Lou, hate to say it, and I'm not an expert, but am sure I've read somewhere, that once you are suspended permanently you CANNOT be re-instated, unless of course you are a slime bag (refer other thread) Seems to work for them, but maybe they are only getting set time suspensions, (like a week or 30 days) heaven only knows why that would be though.

I repeat again, there should be Warnings before Suspensions, as there are in any other workplace and Suspension should not be an Automatic occurrence. Please don't anyone tell me eBay is too big to assess each case individually - If there was a warning system in place, then sure, if it is an habitual offender, committing the same violations each time, suspend them, I'm fine with that & that will probably account for the majority anyway, (you all know the ones I mean) other than the repeat offenders, for the first timers I'm sure there are not really that many situations that would truly warrant Instant Permanent Suspension. What ever happened to 'Innocent until Proven Guilty' ? At the very least, give Sellers an opportunity to explain (to someone with at least half a brain !) and correct their mistake before they are suspended.

My other accounts which are in different names where untouched BUT the suspended account was originally set up under a different IP address ( before we moved house ) . Ebay terms state clearly that ALL accounts listed under the one IP address under different names can be suspended at ebays discretion. They also state clearly that it is breaching their rules to use another account to circumvent account suspension.

In answer to your OP I am trying to run my stocks down, but it is difficult as the country is awash with stock at the moment. My storage shed seems to be filling up not emptying. I am no longer following up leads that I would have jumped on twelve months ago and are just watching bulk lots of stock pass me by as I try to reduce my inventory. Ebays current direction is worrying me greatly as my young family still rely on ebay for the bulk of our income. I started my ebay business due to health problems which mean I cant return to my previous occupation and being over 50 my employment options are very limited.

The sad part is my ebay business is still going well and turning good numbers, even in the current difficult trading enviroment.

Hi,
I made similar comment on the thread re Suspension. I've been messaging eBay and have phoned CS, but it all just seems to fall on deaf ears. They agree it sounds like a good idea, and tell you they will pass it on to the Technical Team. It's just their way of getting rid of you I think and trying to stop you continually contacting them. I don't honestly believe they will ever change anything unless it suits THEM !

There are a range of things that sellers can do(and most would likely do already) to mitigate the risks created through a DEFECTIVE Defect System.

Improved stock control, improved and increased quality check, providing exceptional customer service etc etc

Beyond regularly partaking in a nice glass of red and/or one of Narelles valium to numb emotions and/or finding a private space to scream, I have no clue as to how to counter increased episodes of hysteria, bouts of weeping or feelings of hopelessness that are linked to the DEFECTIVE Defect System

CS told me some time ago, they don't care if there is more than one person living at the address (for instance in our househld apart from myself, hubby and my daughter both have their own ID's and operate completely separately). If I was to be issued a suspension and tried to use one of the other accounts, they would shut them all down, no questions asked and no way it would be reversed.

So, the point raised about work computers is very interesting . . . . .

I don't understand much about it either, I call myself a computer dummy, but I was wondering, if it would work if you set up an account via a mobile phone if that would be traceable in the same or similar way ?? I wouldn't think so, but as I said, I'm a dummy, lol

I have no idea about it either....

But how would they know if you used someone elses account? or they just suspend everyone at once.... Good point about a mobile... Or even worse, what happens if you are hijacking your neighbours wifi? and they get cut off... LOL
