EBAY DYING???

It seems Ebay is losing touch with sellers. Ive noticed a severe decline in bidding/views which indicates buyers are dropping like flies. Its cooincided with increases in fees (Ebay and Paypal), and increases in Australia Post fees. So what have they done - slugged a 10% impost on postage as well as the final selling fee. Ebay needs to provide some loyalty to sellers.....better postage rate deals with Aust Post, staggered fees based on loyalty levels etc. As postage fees rise, buyers will turn away.......EBAY - TIME TO ACT!! Im seriously thinking of pulling the pin....

I very much doubt ebay is dying and their only loyalty is to it's share holders.

EBay has no loyalty to sellers, you only have to look at some of the recent threads in this forum to see that. Hang in there. Christmas is coming up and you've got some great collectables for sale.

While ever Ebay panders to the big Chinese sellers, we small sellers will be treated as a waste of broad band.

I would like to draw a parallel between ebay and our local “Big Club” … both are made up of members

The Club got a new boss who declared that it was the Poker Machine players who made the Club the most money and the ordinary members cost the Club money

So, not unlike ebay, all he did was to try and encourage the “big players” and penalise the “small” members by putting up prices, food, bar, recreation etc

Which all became more expensive and unwelcoming

But guess what … the whole vibe of the club changed …

The ordinary members became disenchanted, felt alienated and stopped coming …

and when the “Big” players realised that their partners, friends, associates etc (the ordinary members) no longer wanted to accompany them to this club ….

They also stopped coming

The Club went broke ! …

And I see that this is the way ebay is going

Without your core base of small customers … you have no audience to sing to ! …

it’s fine to be a “Big Player”, but with no one at the game, it counts for nothing

Their business tactics might work in the short term ... but are not sustainable in the long run

Then we will see how their shareholders react

Excellent - I had cause to contact customer support last night & got the usual blah blah about the buyer - afraid I lost it a touch and told the agent (she was a supervisor) in no uncertain terms that it's about time they started supporting their sellers, that if it wasn't for us sellers making money for ebay then no-one in the call centre would have a job - a tiny little voice replied 'I know'

Feeling somewhat guilty, because they are only doing their job for a measly wage, but it just came out of my mouth lol

Guilty about what? These robots are trained to say certain things and will not budge. They are also rude and condescending. All who i spoke with said "i understand" which really erks me.

They understand? Really? When did their account get suspended with no warning?

That kind of thing irks me too and not just with eBay. I hate it when someone announces that they've suffered a tragedy of some sort and people say "I know how you feel" or "I know what you're going through". Ummm, no you don't.

Years ago at work, one of my colleagues lost her baby at full term. When she came back to work, someone went up to her and offered their sympathy and said "I know exactly what you're going through, I lost my 96yo father a few years ago". I could have strangled her. Sorry, she had absolutely no idea what this poor woman was going through. Even others who had suffered the same fate didn't know what she was going through because everyone is different. But, I digress.

Exactly, you cannot compare losing a father in his 90's who has lived more than a full life to a new born child. I have in the last 2 months become a father for the first time and i could not imagine anythig worse.

hum only loyality is for share holders.

well with out the millions of dollars they collect of sellers each month one would think sellers & buyers should share in that loyality dont you think. without the millions collected each month in fees from sellers what business has ebay got for there share holders.

ebay dont own any stock listed here. One would think ebay owes much more loyality to the sellers that sit here day after day listing & wrapping parcels because without them what is ebay a site with nothing to offer.

For those who continue to say things like eBay's only reason for existing is profit / only loyalty is to their shareholders etc...

Profit and purpose are two different things, if one is neglected in favour of the other, it will at least inhibit genuine success if not outright deny it. A business, no matter what their size or resource pool is, can't trade on past success forever, either.

eBay's purpose is to provide a service, from which they derive a profit. The quality of that service affects their profit. Maybe they'll thrive and be perfectly happy in a few years time with the way things are going, and if so, yay for them, but I'll believe it when I see it.

If I approached my business with the atttitude of the only reason I'm doing this is to make as much money as possible, and I have little to no loyalty, obligation or responsibility to my customers above and beyond 'yo, here's the thing, you can have it I guess, at least, I haven't found any reason why you can't have it....yet', I doubt I would have lasted much beyond a couple of months.
