What to do if someone doesn't pay?

Hi, I sold an item on 21st of November, I have sent an invoice and then later I sent a message asking when they were going to pay and have had no reply yet. What do I do now? I would like to relist the item for sale instead of having it sit around here. Or i'm happy to send to buyer if they actually pay & soon! Thankyou.

I wouldn't wait that long. You are being far too generous IMO. Lodge an Unpaid Item Dispute now, from the drop down menu to the right of the item in your SOLD list sleect Resolution Centre. This will take you to the page where you report the item unpaid. It should automatically bring up the item and you tick the box to say I have not received payment, then you have to wait four days, EXACTLY four days, to the second. If the buyer does not pay, or does not respond within that time, then you can close the case and you will receive your FVF back. You can then relist.

Surely you meant 21st September, still too long though, unless buyer made arrangements with you.

I message the buyer at 5-6 days asking if there is a problem with payment and if I don't get a response within a day or two, I open the unpaid item case.

That can spur payment and if not I close the case 4 days later.

Fee is refunded, buyer gets a strike and I am free to relist.

I also add them to my BBL.

Set blocks to weed out members with non payer strikes.

Hover over account tab, select site prefs then buyer requirements.

To the right show n edit, set blocks and save.

BBL is at the bottom there.

I presume you mean 21st of September, in which case you should lodge a UPI and if they still want the item, they'll pay. Otherwise, you close the UPI after 4 days and recover your final value fees, which you would otherwise lose by doing nothing. They will also receive a strike which will make it just that little bit harder for them to purchase from sellers who have the required blocks set to ignore serial non-payers.

Get a system going and sick to it or things will soon get out of hand.

Here's mine:

2 days after sale - send invoice

4 days after sale - send reminder with offer to cancel.

8 days after sale - send warning that UPI case will need to be opened (explaining why).

9 days after sale - UPI cse opened (if no correspondence has been received).

My options are:

Day 1. Send invoice at end of auction requesting payment within 3 days, with mention of deferring payment if they are still watching other items, but ask that they let me know if that's the case.

Day 4, resend invoice reminding them that payment is due now and if they need more time to pay, they only have to contact me.

Day 5, UPI.

No point stringing it out. If they haven't paid after 2 invoices, I find that they have no intention of paying, so case gets opened.

My non payer lost her head at 8.10pm tonight. She's now on my BBL.

Did I mention that my friend kristy travelled 5938 kilometres from her home to deliver an item to a customer?

Jeez, you lot are pretty generous! I specifically state in my payment instructions "Payment when confirming order would be appreciated but in any case is required no later than 4 days from the date of sale." After 2 days I send them an invoice, and if they still haven't paid within the allocated 4 days, I immediately open a UPI. No further requests and no second chances.

If they choose to pay at any time within the next 4 days, no problems, I'll happily send them their item, but if I've still heard nothing after the 4 days have expired, I close the UPI and add them to my BBL. No more Mr Nice Guy here; I'm fed up with serial non-payers and the sooner this site is rid if them, the better IMO.

Day 2 ebay send a reminder, day 3 I send an ivoice with a message asking them to confirm payment as I can't trace it, Day 4 open dispute, day 8 close it and add to list.

Still waiting for my policy violations spanning several years for leaving non payers POSITIVE HONEST feedback as Chooks has done.

IMO the non paying PESTS do not seek recourse as they are:

- suitably shamed and/or would not dare ring eBay when they have violated eBay policy AND a lawful contract of sale

- couldn't give a fig, and go on with their NON PAYMENT habits

- start a new ID (or fire up an old ID where the strikes have expired) when they they are blocked too frequently

- numerous other reasons

I also imagine that my non-payers would not respond to the PMs received from those who chose to stir the pot and champion the "rights" of non paying PESTS.

I give my thanks again to those seller that decide they will make this a safer trader place by leaving honest positive feedback (that is allowed under eBay policy) and follow ups re non payment, not as described, not recieved and downright difficult customers, as a heads up for others.

As buyer IDs are not shown anymore, it would be a bit hard, even if somebody was so inclined.

With any less than positive feedback, it's just a matter of including the user's ID as part of the comment.

I don't normally leave negative positives, but I felt the need with this one for some reason. I didn't go on with all the uppcase beware stuff, just gave an honest opinion on my dealings with that buyer. Naming and shaming made me feel better 😄

I haven't had a non payer for months, but I've got/had 2 this week. A low feedback (5) has decided to ignore my invoice and resent invoice, so tomorrow, being day 4, I will open a case if she doesn't pay. I pointed out (nicely) in my second invoice that eBay could restrict her account if she doesn't pay and that ignoring it won't make it go away. I also said if she has changed her mind, that's OK, but she needs to let me know. I'm not expecting to hear anything from her.

I've always been a bit concerned that if I hassle NPBs too much in order to get them to pay, they may just decide to buy the item after all then neg me in retaliation, which is why I don't nag them for payment. If they still haven't paid after I've sent an invoice after 2 days, I simply wait until day 4 then lodge a UPI then close it ASAP, although there's still the possibility that they'll pay and neg me anyway. Or at the very least trash my DSRs (yet another brilliant idea by eBay. Not!).

There was a time that it wouldn't have worried me all that much but thanks to eBay, all sellers now fear getting negs and/or trashed DSRs because of the defect issue, and we all know that these days it doesn't take much to annoy a buyer sufficiently that they'll mark your DSRs down enough for you to cop a defect. Seems to me that eBay have stuffed it up for sellers so much that what used to be a fairly enjoyable activity has now become a soul destroying exercise for everybody except buyers.
