Target Australia

Target Australia is on eBay and selling. targetau has a feedback score of 3, and has 500+ items listed. Why wasn't I able to list that many as I have just started selling too. I am limited to 10 a month.

I also notice that one of their positives comes from miptestau60 which appears to be a test account of Targets. Is this giving themselves feedback allowed?

Why wouldn't they?

eBay entices them with all kinds of incentives. They've heavily promoted Target and subsidised 20% on every sale with the Toys discount offer.

eBay probably pay them to be here to improve their image as a "marketplace" or have some form of advertising partnership deal.

eBay don't mind taking $ for ads that take buyers off site either.

I can't imagine any of the big brand store sellers being on any fee or rule structure as the rest of us.

Retail in all sectors is suffering, smart B&M sellers are diversifying wherever possible, putting their eggs in more than one basket so to speak. Coles and Woollies in recent years have branched out into mobile phone services, insurance and finance, unheard of in the past. I'm not surprised that Target have taken a "can't beat'em, join'em approach".

As for preferential treatment, I can't say, but I expect it is more a matter of perspective. Some members without stores think those with stores get preferential treatment (reduced FVF etc). Some standard store owners think the top of the line store owners get preferential treatment. Truth is, they pay for their "preferential treatment" in fees for special features, subtitles and volume FVF. Personally, I don't dwell on what others are experiencing, I have enough to do looking after my own little corner of Ebay.

No surprise to see them on here it'll be Kmart etc next. Basically its merely a continuation of big business diversifying to crush small business perfectly legally. Better for ebay as known brand names on their site probably a no lose gamble for the retailer and another crushing blow for small business. More reasons not to sell on eBay for small business essentially. I predict a riot!

I agree with the philosophy (or practice) of not dwelling too much on what others are (or aren't) getting, but I can't agree that it is a matter of perspective, since the things I get as a featured store holder are made available to any and everybody who opts to pay the $50 p/m store fee, if they aren't getting preferential treatment, I would like to know how I can:

Have hundreds of negative feedback (should I actually receive that many) disappear without a trace so that my overal feedback percentage looks more respectable
Have my logo displayed in search results
Have special advertising placement (for no extra cost) as part of my eBay package
Get top position in best match without earning (for lack of a better word) it like the average eBay member / storeholder has to

eBay want certain types of stores / sellers here, thus they can (and do) give them things no one else has the opportunity to access (or buy). That is the very definition of preferential treatment.

If so, then perhaps we "mere mortal" sellers might have a case to put to them in order that they be required to level the playing field.

They haven't listed anything for a while though.

Honestly, I doubt it, unless it was seen that these additional (exclusive) incentives were not made available to the rest of us for discriminatory reasons, and put us at a clear disadvantage, which, even if it feels that way, would be difficult to prove - though, in saying that, the high volume removal of negative feedback, which was witnessed recently on a certain branded store of electronics (but who also happened to branch out into groceries like peanut butter - rhymes with Slick Myths), is a genuine worry. If nothing else, that disadvantages buyers, and makes eBay look like hypocricitcal nutters.

I left eBay because the writing was well and truly on the wall. TRUTH: EBay no longer want little sellers. They have been making it increasingly harder for the little seller to survive. They have brought out every torment they can think of to make us all pack up and go. EBay do not protect the little seller. Little sellers sink or give refunds and stock away to deter negs and low DSRs. TRUTH: EBay see themselves as an online mall - everything in the one place - a one-stop online shopping mecca. A world where everything is new not second hand. TRUTH: No matter how hard a seller tries you cannot win against eBay & PayPal. The buyer will always win. EBay do not care. EBay create policies that sound really good but just ask them to stick to one of their policies when you need help from them and they will tell you it's 'too bad too sad'. Sorry guys but that's the truth as I see it.

all it does is confirm the major suspicions everyone has. eBay has no ethics whatsoever and doesn't give a toss about its sellers unless they are major brands.

Wouldn't we all love to have our logo/brand on the top of every search result, and on the homepage, on banners, and have all our listings top "Best Match" despite having a 0 feedback selling account......not preferential treatment at all.

If ebay didn't want small sellers, then why do they give them 40 free listings a month?

ebay has a lot of registered members, Target having a store on here will be attempting to tap into that market.

In our area we used to have one Target, now we have three. There are always people who don't like shopping malls etc, or don't drive/have a car who might buy onlne instead of going to stores.

As I have already said this point of view is only my opinion but I also know there are many who agree with me.

Ebay give 40 free listings a month to keep sellers listing so they can keep on ripping sellers off. Anyway, if the 40 listings weren't free many sellers could not afford to keep going.

Ebay also know that there are people who don't like to drive to the mall, and many more who don't have the big stores nearby,so that's why they are providing one online. Most of the big stores will become envolved just wait and see.

This has been in the planning for some time. When I first joined eBay and started selling way back in 2002 things were very different. Sellers were very important to eBay. I sold on eBay until 2007 and then had a 7 year break until coming back in March this year. The eBay that I found in 2014 is not the same eBay of 2007.

am*3 I wish things were different. I loved selling on eBay too but not now
