Sellers Opinin please

Hi all.
I have posted regarding this same item on the buyers board but there have been some developments and I would really like the opinion of sellers specifically.
I recently purchased an item using the Australia only search tool. Found an item with NSW listed as item location. This along with the postage terms is why I purchased the item. I won't go into the whole story as that is on the buyers board.

Item finally arrived today (Sale date was 25th Oct) Item was posted from Germany.
So my question to you sellers.
If you were selling in the same category would you prefer a buyer to penalise a seller for false and misleading item location or
would you rather a buyer just be thankful the item arrived irregardless of the fact the seller misrepresented item location and also did not follow their own postage terms stated in the listing?

I understand buyers and sellers mentality is often different from each other and that is why I am asking you to answer from a sellers perspective.

If the seller deliberately misrepresented the location, then they should expect to hear about it. I most certainly would.
Are you certain it's the seller and not Ebay that's done it though?

How would you tell the difference?

For the first time ever I did not look at FB before buying only because it was very low cost, "aussie" seller and over 99% FB.
However now having looked at their FB they have quite a few negs for misleading item location and postage delays.

Is there a possibility that the item was drop shipped, if say, the seller was in NSW and unexpectedly ran out of stock, and got a supplier to send it?

I haven't looked at the details on the other board, this consideration may have been addressed. I would see that as a genuine effort to get the item to you, although they should have advised you, as it would cause delays in any case.

I'm not sure how you would tell, except to ask the seller themselves. I'm just a little wary of jumping the gun these days because some weird stuff does happen with Ebay and it's usually sellers who cop the brunt of the flack for it.

I might send them an email and ask why they have item listed as located in Australia and see what they say.

Ok I find this very interesting. I went to send a message to this seller and when I selected postage it had 2 questions. This is what was there.

Where do you post from?
This item posts from NSW, Australia.
Do you offer international postage?
This seller doesn't offer international postage.

I selected NO this does not answer my question and wrote my message asking 2 questions.
1) You state you will post within 48hrs of payment excluding Sunday and public holiday. I purchased this on Saturday 25th and you marked the item as posted on the Thursday 30th. Why the delay?
2) This item did NOT come from NSW but from Germany. WHY?

Will be interesting if they respond.

Trish - if it came from Germany most likely it actually came from China. A lot of Chinese Sellers are sending their stock through to a European Country to avoid their items being stopped by the tighter rules and regulations which have been put in place regarding the posting of certain items. They have got around this by sending their parcels via a european country as they go by road to Europe and then on to Australia.

As far as feedback goes - I am not a believer in leaving non positive feedback or marking down stars for minor problems. However, in this situation, the listing was misleading regarding the item location and communication has been non existent.

As we know the feedback and DSR system is supposed to help buyers identity the honest reliable sellers so there are times when it is appropriate to let other buyers be aware that there may be some issues with a particular seller.

I agree totally with Jen. I would be reflecting my disgruntlement in both feedback and star ratings. I don't have a problem with drop shippers, IF it is mentioned in their listing. If they say the items are being posted from NSW, I expect them to posted from NSW. As I am also in NSW, I would expect most things to arrive in less than a week. If it arrives 3 weeks later with foreign stamps on, then I wouldn't be happy.

That said, sometimes things happen and the seller might run out of stock and have the item sent from their overseas supplier. In that scenario, I would expect the seller to contact me and inform me that's what was going on. A seller who doesn't do that is setting them self up for disaster as buyers are going to open cases for INR against them and their defect rate will go through the roof.

It's no wonder sellers have a bad name when idiots go and pull stunts like this.

As for leaving the DSR rating, I don't think you get defected for low communication stars, so I would also be marking them down on item description as their description was incorrect by stating the item would be posted from NSW, when it was obviously posted from overseas. 3 and under will give them the defect they deserve.

trish,

I know you want sellers to respond with the opinion - I'm a buyer so my input here will not count.

However, as a buyer - I couldn't care less if my item came from another galaxy (I never even look where the seller is as I NEVER buy things online that I know have too many iffs regarding delivery date as anything can happen en route irrespective where it's coming from - if I know I need it for a specific date in the near future)

And I would not dream of dinging anyones f/back or stars for that as I REALLY don't care where they are, as long as the item is just fine, after all that is what I bough.

Ebay makes me sick a bit that they even allow the possibility of anyone marking people down for this - if they really feel the need for any sort of final judgement they should have limeted it to the items we buy.

When I buy items from non Ebay sites, there is none of this carp, no f/back possibility at all - and if anything goes wrong we manage to sort it out with the sellers just fine - without any help or interference from Ebay.

Sorry Fixnwear, cant agree with you. One of the things that makes ebay different to other sites is the huge array of small sellers. Many excellent and a few dishonest low lifes that spoil it for the rest. The feedback system for sellers plays an important role in helping buyers avoid the problem sellers. I know its not perfect but it is a heck of a lot better than nothing at all. Many buyers want to keep their money in Australia for all sorts of reasons. To support local sellers and employment, lower shipping times, avoid delays with customs, the list goes on. Not everyone shops based on price alone. As a seller only these days on ebay, I think dishonest descriptions of item location, shipping times etc.damages ebays reputation. This feeds through to negative attitudes towards all sellers and reduces buyers confidence ( and dollar spend ) on the site, affecting everyone here in the end. Time to dust off the low star ratings and negative or neutral feedbacks I think.

no need to apologise for not agreeing with me!

Thankfully we are all different individuals, and being adults have our own opinions about most of the things.

OP wanted an opinion weather to crucify the seller for not disclosing the location - and I offered mine - simple as that.

And of course I'm all for supporting local economy whenever possible.

My support is reflected heavily on the everyday items, mostly from supermarkets and farmer's markets, meat, fish... that sort of thing.

When it comes to online shopping - I buy what I like or need - but where it comes from to me is irrelevant.

And I know that most buyers think this f/back and stars are fantastic, they blindly relly on it in their decision making when shopping on Ebay - but something is very wrong with this system here - as the boards are full of very dissatisfied buyers in spite of all precautions Ebay has set up to "protect" them.

I just don't find nowhere near as many incidents (actually none of any significance) when shopping elsewhere.

And we don't need all that - Ebay's efforts are totally wasted on me - (and I can't be the only one surely that feels like this), as long as one pays with PP or credit card one is protected anyway.

I would prefer a buyer is honest about their location.

The reason I like buying local is because the item generally arrives quicker and I find local buyers are more helpful than international buyers if there is a problem.

I really can't stand sellers who lie about their location...it's not fair to the buyer, or to other sellers.

However, I'd wait for a response to your questions before leaving feedback.

I was asking for sellers perspective because I have a similar post about the same item on the buyers board and I know buyers and sellers opinions can be some what different given their perspective.

In response to your comment though I better explain a little more.
I had already purchased 2 other items of the same (phone case) from over seas and both had resonably long expected delivery time.
This item I purchased purely because it was in Australia and the seller states they post within 48hrs excluding sundays/public holidays.
I did not even like the item much but thought it would at least protect my new phone until the others arrive from OS.
Baring any postage delay not caused by the seller eg Australia post etc.

So you see the intended purpose was to use this case short term. As it turns out one of the cases from OS arrived before this one and only due to the fact that the item location was misreprented and because the seller posted 5 days after sale not 48hrs. Even with the purchase being a Saturday I would have expected them to post Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

yes you get a defect for slow shipping time.

Was the item delivered way outside estimated time frame?

As far as keeping money in Aus is concerned what is difference betwen seller importing then shipping to you vs having it sent direct to you.? Item cost still goes OS and resell margin to seller. No difference how it is shipped. Its only a matter of delivery time that affects anything, along with risk of being out of stock without seller being aware untill after order placed

My biggest issue with this is the deception. If it was all up front you wouldn't have bought and they wouldn't have a problem. Seems silly for them to do it.
